Zouk Singapore lets Politics Seep Into It's Club Cluture

Zouk Singapore is listed among the top night clubs in the world and has build itself as a brand. Opened in 1991, the club has played host to the best of DJ/producers and dance music fans around the world. The famed club has surrounded itself with much controversy after a highly acclaimed DJ was asked to stop his performance to make way for the son of Malaysia’s prime minister recently.

Over the weekend, DJ Fila aka Fadi Wassef Naguib, one half of Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila, was asked by the club management to end his set prematurely and hand over the booth to the son of embattled Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak. According to the DJ, Zouk’s new owner Genting Hong Kong, who acquired the club last year in September, was “hosting a VIP guest” Najib and was first requested to play a B2B with PM’s son to which he simply denied. 15 minutes later, he was asked to stop as the “VIP Guest” wanted to play.

Check out the video of that night uploaded on YouTube where you can clearly hear Fadi saying, ” I would like to play more, but it seems that Zouk here wants someone else to play… He’s the son of a prime minister… Thank you so much, enjoy my last track, I will see you somewhere in the future, not in Zouk anymore, I will not play for Zouk any f**king more, they insulted me, but I love you guys.

Even though Zouk has issued an official statement denying the claims but DJ Fila has maintained in a new clarification posted yesterday that he was not mistaken about the night’s events. Check it out:

The Malaysian PM’s son as well as Zouk are caught in a social media storm since then and people from all around the world are demanding that Zouk apologizes to Fadi for inappropriate behavior. DJ Fadi (Fila) was a frequent performer at Zouk but the artist has sworn not to return again.
