Women Who Run The International Music World

Gone are the days when men dominated the music scene. Now women musicians are taking over and they aren’t looking back. From highest earners to most influential, here are some of the women who are on top of their game.

Katy Perry


Katy Perry‘s claim to fame happened in 2008 with her hit single “I Kissed a Girl”. Since then she’s the first female artist to have produced five #1 Billboard Hot 100 songs, second only to Michael Jackson overall. Katy Perry also topped the list of Forbes Highest Earner for the last year because of the record number of shows she has been performing. In songs like “Firework” and “Roar”, she focuses on themes of self-empowerment and self-esteem.


Taylor Swift

Swift started pursuing a career in country music at the age of 14. Her second album “Fearless” became the best-selling album in the US in 2009. Her next three albums sold more than a million copies each and she has won multiple Grammy Awards. Forbes ranked her in the “100 Most Powerful Women” list and she was also in the top 5 for highest earning musicians in 2015.


Amy Thomson

Amy Thomson managed Swedish House Mafia and helped them rise to the level they reached, procuring coveted deals with brands like Absolut. Her company ATM artists are managing Axwell /\ Ingrosso, Alesso, Don Diablo, Moby, Hard Rock Sofa, and Thomas Gold. She also handles marketing and consulting for Kanye West and more.


Bozoma Saint John

Head of global consumer marketing, iTunes/Apple MusicBozoma Saint John, was chosen to represent the streaming service, undergoing days of script doctoring and intense run-throughs under the watchful eye of Apple CEO Tim Cook. She joined the company through Beats, which Apple acquired three months after she started working there in 2014.

Adele has been raking in awards since she started launching her music. She even won an astounding 6 Grammy‘s in 2012. The success of her second album ’21’ has got her numerous mentions in The Guinness Book of World Records due to her multiple awards and sales. In 2011 and 2012 Billboard named her Artist of the Year, and Time Magazine named her one of the most influential people in the world.

Michele Anthony

The Executive VP of Universal Music Group, Michele Anthony started working with her father’s management team at age 12. She eventually became a music lawyer, represent Guns N’ Roses, Alice in Chains, and Ozzy Osbourne. She joined Sony Music as a senior executive, discovering Pearl Jam and Oasis.

Queen Bey first became popular as part of R&B group “Destiny’s Child”. She released an album in 2003 and established herself as a solo artist worldwide. The album got her 5 Grammy awards and tracks featured on the Billboard Top 100. She’s a self-proclaimed “modern-day feminist” and her third album gave birth to her alter-ego Sasha Fierce and earned 6 Grammy Awards in 2010. Forbes Magazine listed her as the most powerful musician of 2015. Now with her ‘Lemonade’ album, she has reached another pinnacle of success.


Kathryn Frazier

Kathryn Frazier is the owner of Biz 3 Publicity which handles music clients and labels like Zedd, Mad Decent, Daft Punk, Fool’s Gold, Big Beat, and more. She’s also one of the heads behind OWSLA, which is co-owned by Skrillex.


Lady Gaga


Gaga is known for her crazy performances, self-empowering messages, and fashion statements. As of now, she’s one of the best-selling musicians of all time and her accolades include 12 Guinness World Records and 6 Grammy Awards. She known for her social activism including LGBT rights, HIV/AIDS awareness and foundation Born This Way.


Julie Swidler

The Executive VP of business affairs/general counsel at Sony Music Entertainment, Swidler is one of the industry’s key figures as streaming becomes a dominant model. In 2016, SME reached a licensing agreement with SoundCloud, the money has followed: For the first half of Sony’s fiscal year 2016, streaming generated $575.6 million, up 47.8 percent from the same period of 2015.
