Why Above & Beyond Should Be In Your Bucketlist

1. Pushing The Button
On of their most peculiar and signature concert activity is “Pushing the Button”. The fans come with intricate, hand-painted signs and flags—and make the daunting trek from the back of the crowd to the front of the stage—in hopes of being handpicked to come on stage and drop the beat in front of tens of thousands of their fellow ravers. It’s an empowering moment for the fan, but as we found out from A&B’s Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki, it’s also an empowering, affirming moment for the artists themselves.

Even though it is a fan activity, the likes of Bryan Cranston came to do it at EDC.

2. They Have Performed For One Million People At Once
On New Year’s Eve 2007, Barra Beach was the world’s biggest dancefloor. Revelers dressed in white stretching for miles along Rio’s famous shoreline are dancing to Above & Beyond’s Tri-State-era, vocal-trance repertoire. Sounds like a dream, although taking a leak probably wasn’t fun.

3. Their Music becomes Group Therapy Radio, In Banglore
Trance Around The World, first broadcast in 2004, was Above & Beyond’s much-loved weekly radio show. In June 2011 the group released their second artist album, calling it ‘Group Therapy’. A reference to the catharsis of attending an A&B show, the title came to represent the very essence of the A&B experience, after 450 episodes of Trance Around The World, the trio decided to appropriate the same name for their radio show. On November 12, 2012, with Bangalore’s historic Jayamahal Palace Hotel as the backdrop, Group Therapy Radio was born.

4. They Remixed Madonna To Which She Made a Video
In 2001, Tony was the Director of Marketing at Warner Music UK, Jono and Paavo were up-and-coming producers, tinkering away on records for their new bedroom-based record label, Anjunabeats. Tony gets introduced to the pair via his brother and the three of them team up to remix Madonna’sWhat It Feels Like For A Girl’. The result? Above & Beyond’s first global club hit, which Madonna loved so much she decided to use the remix for the single’s official music video. Can’t remember that one? Not surprising: in classic Madonna form, the video stirred some controversy and was quickly banned from MTV.

5. You Are Sure To Have A Crazy Experience

They are the first DJs to sell out Madison Square Garden, they’ve organised their own two day music festival, and they visit India often, just to have the crowds poring in to their concerts. Don’t take it from us, but frothier fans all over the world, whom they have mesmerised by their music. They come with all the flare, lights, confetti, sparks, visuals, you name it, and play a gamut of music from calming house to turn up EDM.

6. Pocket Friendly

Their concerts are always pocket friendly, with student discounts available. For Festivals, it varies upon the time and nature of the festival. However, they try to incorporate as many people as they possibly can.

Maybe this also is a reason for them selling out almost every time!
