What Brexit Means For Dance Music Industry & How Artists Reacted To It

Everybody around the world was stunned with the news of U.K. leaving the European Union (EU) aka the Brexit. Following the news of big change, the value of the British Pound and EU Euro have dropped dramatically compared to numerous worldwide currencies. The exit will not only bring about massive changes in various fields including the lives of many in the music industry. Pitchfork reported that a spokesperson for the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) emphasized the importance of the EU and Europe “to UK recorded music and to the music sector generally, particularly when you consider the importance of live music and touring.

The next two years mark the period of negotiations between the UK and EU and might even be rough for music industry at large. This exit will specially be hard on touring DJ/Producers. With Britain leaving Europe, it is very well possible that British artists be restricted from openly touring Europe and vice versa as a consequence. Moreover, the paperwork such as individual visas to enter EU might get more expensive and time consuming. [Leaving] would affect live music, the music business as a whole, and I think on a creative level, it would set back the UK by a number of years. Music from the UK is so exciting, it’s so cross-pollinated—why would you wanna pull up the drawbridge on that?” Rob Challice, a director at top booking firm Coda Agency Ltd booking Agency.
