Watch the music video honouring Shaheed Udham Singh

Music wouldn’t be as much fun without their respective videos as these help to enhance the song’s character immensely and narrate a story which words may never be able to. Over the years, there have been ‘n’ number of videos in connection with historical events, but none have caused uproar in the music scene like the one talked about here.

This four-minute video was released on 31 July 2015, marking the 75th anniversary of Udham Singh’s execution at London’s Pentonville Prison. It is a stunning creation of the ‘The Ska Vengers,’ an eight-piece band hailing from New Delhi, notorious for amalgamating ‘ska’ rhythms with elements of others musical genres to give birth to a rare breed of soulful, high on energy danceable beats.

The troupes revived the lost story of a forgotten hero, Udham Singh, who in 1940, ignited gun powder to assassinate a colonial official, Michael O’Dwyer, who believed the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that took place in Amritsar was completely justified.

In his remembrance, the pop group released an animated music video of their track ‘Frank Brazil’ (an alias used by Udham Singh during an undercover trip overseas), honouring the activist’s actions, tracing the rebel’s life from the pre-mentioned historical incident to his shooting of the then British lieutenant governor of Punjab, in London.
