10 Unwritten Rules Of Music Festival Etiquette

Follow these to a T and appease the festival gods.

1. Cheer

No matter what, cheer for the artist on stage. For all you know, they flew halfway around the world for you and the last thing they need to see is drab little amused or confused faces in the front row while they’re jamming out.

2. Dress Appropriately

That black t-shirt with your favourite band’s logo on it sounds like a great idea, but you’re going to regret it when you’re sharing breathing space with thousands of people under the festival heat. Also, leave the uncomfortable OTT outfits at home unless you’re going for the Festival Douche look.

3. Use Deodorant

Sounds like a no-brainer but a lot of people still need to know this. B.O. is a real issue at sweaty music festivals and you don’t want to be ‘that person with the pit stains’ in the crowd.

4. Stay Hydrated

You will be dancing and sweating profusely and there will be situations with alcohol or questionable pharmaceuticals involved. Water is your best friend at all times so bring enough so you don’t get sick when you should ideally be having the time of your life.

5. Be Respectful

You never know when you’ll need a hand from your neighbour, so be nice and don’t be that unapologetic prick who steps on people’s toes or stands in the front to get a better glimpse of the stage even when they’re well over 6 feet tall.

6. Keep The Screaming In Check

giphy (2)

We get it, you’re excited. But you’re not Ric Flair. This is part of being respectful since it’s a buzz kill when people can hear your WOOOs over the bass.

7. Keep Phone Use To A Minimum

Your phone is a necessity in case one of you gets lost, but don’t go overboard with the selfies or videos and miss out on the actual experience. We all know people who do this, so don’t waste your time asking them to put their phone away either because they will only learn when the iPhone gets knocked out of their hand.

8. Don’t Start An Unnecessary Mosh Pit

You might get knocked out for real and cause your friends some trouble if you’re sloshed already.

9. Throw Your Trash Away

giphy (3)

Be a responsible citizen and do your part.

10. Let Go and Have A Good Time

giphy (4)

Don’t be overly critical of the event. Perhaps the sound system wasn’t the best or you’ve been holding in your bladder forever because of the washroom situation, but you’ve paid for this experience and there are great people around you so feed off the good vibes and enjoy yourself
