Train Your Brain Better By Learning A Musical Instrument

We’ve been told up until now that playing any kind of games boosts our brain’s cognitive activity, but as of now research shows that learning music instrument actually promotes an overall healthy brain and help your mind be sharp as we head towards the latter stage of our lives. “Music probably does something unique,” said neuropsychologist Catherine Loveday of the University of Westminster. “It stimulates the brain in a very powerful way, because of our emotional connection with it.”

The complexity and various combinations of neural signals required while playing an instrument only gives our brain an edge. Hearing, seeing and touching have to be used in perfect synergy. Not only does learning an instrument help increase grey matter volume but also helps but also helps strengthen long range connections. Other researches have also shown that it impacts verbal memory, spatial reasoning & literacy skills.

It’s also about what age one picked up learning an instrument. Those who picked up instruments at an early age have shown greater signs of change in their neural pathways. We’ve been telling out parents how video games enhance our hand-eye coordination and our brains cognitive functions but any kind of ‘game’ will only go as far as to develop that particular skill just as playing football or dancing may improve our footwork but playing an instrument goes way deeper than that. “It’s a strong cognitive stimulus that grows the brain in a way that nothing else does, and the evidence that musical training enhances things like working memory and language is very robust.”

So go on now, grab an instrument. We hear violin makes you more smart than anything else.
