Tips To Survive Your First EDM Festival

Posted at November 9th, 2015 | by Sidhantha Jain | in Entertainment

Electronic Dance Music is best enjoyed live, ‘cause it is made to be danced to and it’s proving to be an unstoppable force in the Indian music scene. Some people don’t understand why it’s okay to spend a “crazy” amount of money listening to a DJ at a concert rather than dancing to his tunes at a club.

Well, to clear this doubt you must experience it yourself.

If you’re an avid raver you must be aware of how to carry yourself in the utopian land but if you’re a newbie, we’ve got some quick tips to help you have the best time of your life!

Do’s and Don’ts

Every organizer has their set of rules and regulations that need to be followed at all times. Before heading to the venue, visit the promoter’s website and check for the items that are allowed or prohibited. Information about the services available in and around the place is also shared. For instance; parking spaces might not be accessible to everyone, so you must be either advised to park your vehicle elsewhere or use public transport. Also, getting high or drunk before the show has its own drawbacks, you might not be allowed to enter the premises intoxicated.

Know who’s playing

Even if you’re going to the gig for no apparent reason, get to know your artists. Why? Because it’s good to learn in advance; DJ Snake won’t be playing ‘Blue Eyes.’

Stay hydrated.

When you dance you sweat, when you sweat you lose water from your body. Science bitches.

Carry a backpack/bag

If you’re in a gang you can always ask your girl-friends to keep your stuff safe but in case you’re all alone, keep a backpack ready for the day. I know it’s not cool for guys to carry one everywhere but practically it’s better to keep a little pouch for your phone, wallet, band-aids, water bottles and miscellaneous items, so you can freely jump around without worrying!

Make new friends

Although our parents taught us to stay away from strangers, talk to anyone who’s camping next to you, in a line behind you, or doing the same dance steps in the crowd! You never know if there’s your potential best friend in the crowd or a messiah with a portable charger in his/her hand. Meet new people, it’s a once in a lifetime adventure.

Don’t be a douche and avoid a set just because you haven’t heard of the name before. There’s nothing better than a multi-artist lineup. So, make sure you pick a DJ you’ve never heard of and go beyond mainstream commercial EDM. You might end up liking a new genre altogether!

Be pragmatic

This stands true for everything from pre-planning to what you carry in your backpack and clothes you wear. It’s obvious you want to look “hot” but not at the cost of getting to conscious every other second. You know what I mean?
The more comfortable you are, the better time you’ll have.

Speak Up!

The arena is bound to be jam packed with sweaty human beings throwing random punches in the air and accidently landing some of them onto you. I agree, this is pretty frustrating but this doesn’t mean you’ve got be an asshole and reply with a blow. You can ask him/her to move away or control themselves. If you’re the one at fault, apologize.

Don’t use Snapchat

For god sakes, put your phone down and be physically as well as mentally present there. I know, it’s cool to share these moments with your friends but it’s not worth it.

First of all, you’ll be utilizing most of your device’s battery to click random pictures killing hundreds of Megabytes which won’t even be posted anywhere. Second, you’ll be spending more time on getting a perfect click rather than enjoying what’s around. We’re not saying don’t take any pictures; just consider what all you might be missing while taking that Selfie!
As a matter of fact, these days every performance has its own after movie. Hence, you can revisit the memory lane anytime on YouTube!

Dance like nobody’s watching

We’ve advised you on every possible aspect we think makes sense. However, this is the most important tip, D-A-N-C-E!

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to do the shuffle, do your own moves!
Let yourself lose and just feel the groove.
P.S. doing Bollywood moves with EDM is the new cool!
