This Is Why Electronic Music Will Be Around Forever

Posted at April 28th, 2016 | by Supreet.cheema | in Entertainment

Now and then we keep hearing, reading and debating on whether electronic music has reached its saturation. People keep talking about ‘EDM bubble’ prophesying that its soon going to burst. Rather at some point or the other, we’ve heard someone or the other say that rock is dead or jazz is dead or real hip-hop is dead but that is not at all true. The truth is that no musical genre has ever disappeared from the earth. It’s true that music scene is constantly changing and music genres keep switching places in spotlight rather than simply dying and the reason is that every genre allures to different group of people.

Coming back to electronic music, we give you a few reasons why it isn’t going anywhere.

Music of the Millennials

Every generation has had a particular music genre that defined it. Baby boomers had rock roll; Baby Bust Generation or Generation X had grunge and hip-hop. We millennials have electronic music. There are many things that separate us from past generations. Two most important ones are – Technology & Leisure. We live in a time when most of our time consuming daily tasks like picking up groceries, going shopping among others are done in a click thanks to technology and startups. Result, more emphasis on leisure time. We have some or the other artist coming up in every few days and of course number of music festivals are on the rise.

Evolving Subgenres within Electronic Music

Electronic music comprises of wide range of genres including dubstep, techno, progressive house, trance among other slowly emerging subgenres as future bass, chill step, IDM, tropical house and more. There is so many subgenres only beginning to be explored by artists. Result, electronic music isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

We are more connected than ever in the history of the world and it’s only getting stronger and stronger. We are updated with every event/festival/artist announcements every hour of the day. The global advancements in technology and communication have given anyone with a computer and internet the ability to teach themselves how to produce and DJ. Ever growing music streaming services, digital downloads, live streaming options, 360 degree videos make it easier than it ever was. Moreover, unlike 40 years ago, today if your laptop/phone gets stolen or destroyed, you can sign in to iCloud and retrieve it back. Technology is only moving forward, so as easy as it is to listen to music nowadays it will be even easier in the future; and of course the people who love electronic music won’t ever stop listening to it.

Pop Artists Collaborating With Electronic Music Legends

Pop culture has billions of followers around the world and slowly as the trend looks like the pop artists have started collaborating with dance music legends. The biggest example is Justin Bieber who recently collaborated with Skrillex & Diplo for tracks on his fourth studio album ‘Purpose.’ There are such other big artists as Rihanna, Sia and more who have collaborated with dance music legends to drop smash hits. So, the audience is spreading from just electronic music fans to pop fans.

Some countries including India and China has only started exploring the electronic scene and has a lot of untapped potential. So, despite of people blogging about how “EDM is dead,” we have all the reasons to believe otherwise. Let us know in comments what you think.
