12 Things That Happen When You Go For A Concert In India

Posted at February 27th, 2015 | by NikitaBhanu | in Dance Music, Entertainment

So the day has finally arrived, you’ve got a feeling that tonight’s gonna be a good good night!

Pre Gaming

ALL that dancing, jumping and fist pumping for 3 whole hours requires some serious fuel.  You and your friends get in the mood in the dusty venue parking lot with cheap makeshift drinks in your cars.

Long security check queues

The buzz is eventually killed though with long queues to get your passes and wristbands and the longer queue for the security check. “Cigarette nahin chuppaya hai, Aunty”, you tell the woman frisking you in the booth.

Excitement when you see the stage

There’s something about the vast expanse of green carpet laid across the ground and the magnificent set up of the stage. Not sure if the alcohol is setting in or the venue is beautifully intoxicating.

Opening events

You check out the opening line up DJ’s over enthusiastically persuading the crowd to jump along to their mixes. While most of the people are busy on their phones explaining the directions to the venue to friends on their way.

The main act comes on and the beat drops

FINALLY, the wait is over. Your favorite artist is here and ready to make his grand appearance. Music comes on, build to the drop, lights go dim… aaandDROPPP! Confetti, lights, lasers and the face of your favorite artist, ready to make your evening an unforgettable one.

Public Displays of Emotion

PDA is directly proportional to number of tracks the artist plays. 7 tracks followed by one track about love guarantees couples all over the venue letting their affection be known. Pyaarkiyatohdarnakya, guys.

The friend that passes out

Every group has that one friend that will have one too many and casually pass out midway through your favorite song. And thus starts the journey of wading your way through the insane crowd ALL the way to the rear of the ground to the water and food stalls along with your friend’s arm around your shoulder.

Creepy bald uncles

Pushing your way back to the front through the impenetrable crowd is hard enough without creepy bald uncles and rowdies asking you for “one dance please, baby?” Refuse sternly once, else retrieve pepper spray from your pocket.

Surprise cover of oldies

The irrepressible joy and overwhelming nostalgia when the artist spins your favorite old school track into a beautiful dance number. Nothing gets better than busting some moves with your friends while screaming out lyrics of Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees.

Final Track and closing time

The last track is played and the artist bids his goodbyes. Cellphone networks jam as everyone in the crowd starts frantically calling the friends they lost half way through the concert. “Bhai, I’m standing near the redbull counter, come here only!”

Traffic jams BEFORE you even get on the main road

As the dense beats still ring heavily on your eardrums, you get plenty of time to sober down in the car as it stays jammed for hours behind the exit gates. Everyone sits squeezed on laps, quietly registering each minute of the concert.

Hangovers and Headaches

You wake up the next morning with a terrible hangover and dizzying headache, but with a smile of satisfaction and absolutely no hint of any regrets.

But would you do it again?

Bring on the next one, y’all!
