Goa's Biggest Festivals May Not Happen At Their Usual Dates This Year

Posted at June 14th, 2016 | by Shivani Goel | in

Last December after the super successful and crowded events in Goa, like Sunburn and Supersonic, government officials announced that there won’t be any such events happening in the city between 15th December to 15th January, due to heavy human traffic and overcrowding during tourist season. The dates of the two events, which were overlapping last year, are also not allowed to clash as that just doubles the number of attendees. You can read more details about this statement here.

Since both festivals were adamant to host their events during the tourist season, a compromise has been reached. Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar has put a ban to these events being organised between 25th December to 30th December, keeping most of the Christmas and New Year’s time free of EDM events.

“The Goa Tourism Development Corporation has invited tenders from people who have large tracts of land for organizing such events. We will offer the land to the event organisers and charge them for it,” Parulekar said. This is being done to avoid public discomfort for people who aren’t in Goa to attend these festival.

So Sunburn and Supersonic will happen this year just probably not at the usual dates. Although Sunburn has announced it’s dates and it’s still in the banned period. We’ll keep you updated as we know more!
