Suicide Bomber Attacks German Music Festival

With too many reports of terror attacks in the news, another one has been added to the list. On 24th July, Sunday night, a Syrian refugee blew himself up, wounding 12 people near the Ansbach Open music festival in Germany. The suicide bomber has been identified as a refugee who was denied asylum a while back and has attempted suicide twice before. The motive for this attack however, is not clear yet, as he was allowed to stay in refugee housing. The Bavarian minister, Joachim Herrman said, “We still don’t know whether the offender only wanted to commit suicide or whether it was his intention to kill other people as well.”

The police were notified about the explosion around 10 PM. The refugee set of the bomb near the entrance of the music festival after being denied entrance. The festival had around 2,500 attendees and luckily the majority went unharmed. The explosive device was packed with “small metal parts”, which were found around the blast site. Music festivals seem to be an easy target for terror attacks.
It’s been a violent week in Germany after 9 people were killed last week by an Iranian-German gunman who then killed himself. An Afghan refugee injured 5 people with an ax and a knife in the name of the Islamic State, and a Syrian refugee killed a woman with a machete.

The Ansbach attack doesn’t have a motive yet but a lot of pro-Islamic State channels have been promoting images of this attack.
