Why Steven Wilson Is A Brave Booking For Bacardi Nh7 Weekender

Posted at November 2nd, 2016 | by Shivani Goel | in

As many of you may know, it was recently announced that Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree fame will be joining in for two editions of Nh7 Weekender this year. Wilson has a lot of fans in the Indian music fanbase but there are a lot of music enthusiasts who would be attending Weekender and wouldn’t have heard the name before seeing it in the lineup. We applaud the lineup curators at Nh7 because it’s a pretty big and brave booking to make. Since there is no legit way of determining whether the Weekender attendees would overlap with the Wilson fanbase, it could have been quite a fail on their part.

With the Shillong Weekender behind us, we were happy to see the amount of love and adoration Wilson and his band received. A lot of people we met at the festival had come with the prime motive of seeing a legend like Wilson live, and despite his set time exactly overlapping with India’s biggest headliner and crowd puller, Nucleya, the mainstage with Steven Wilson was no less crowded.

Most music festivals go with the safer option of booking really popular, mainstream acts that would surely pull a crowd like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, David Guetta, or other such artists. it’s fun to attend those too, undoubtedly, but it’s a breath of fresh air to have such a unique headliner. It’s also an attempt to cater to an audience Other than the kind who mainly prefer the Billboard Top 20 tracks. On the other hand, there was also no shortage of mainstream EDM/pop artists to please the regular attendees.

He even vaguely mocked this concept during his performance in Shillong and continued to play his ironically depressive music. From ‘Routine’ to ‘Raven That Refused To Sing’, he kept his fans riveted with this setlist and we’re eager to see him at the Pune edition as well. Check out his setlist below and if you missed him at Shillong, be sure to catch him at Nh7 Weekender, Pune in December!
