After the addition of Indian Music into the database of Spotify through a deal with the Indian music giant, T-series, the Spotify India launch is one of the most anticipated developments in the music industry. It was earlier expected that Spotify will be launching its services in India by January 31 but it seems that the launch has been postponed.

According to a report by Variety, the delay in Spotify India launch is due to the fact that deals with other major music labels in India namely Sony, Universal, and Warner is yet to be finalised. However, it has also been speculated that if these music labels don’t come to an agreement, Spotify may launch its services without them as well.

Meanwhile, it was recently claimed that Spotify subscription plans in India could start from Rs. 140 per month while there will also be an extended trial period of more than 30 days for all new users in India.

Another speculation surrounding the launch is that Spotify will make its service available in English along with five languages, Punjabi, Malayalam, Bengali, Tamil and Telugu with more regional languages being added to the platform in the coming days.

Various Music streaming platforms in India like Wynk, JioSaavn, Gaana, etc are already providing these services and have a strong customer hold in India. All owned by big corporates, capital is not a problem with them. It is now to see how the competition holds up, as everyone wants a share of the large cake that is the Indian user base.
