All Spinnin' Records Tracks Have Mysteriously Disappeared From Beatport

Posted at May 11th, 2016 | by Shivani Goel | in

Online music marketplace Beatport announced that it will be discontinuing some of it’s services along with suspending the auction process. It’s been grossly mismanaged by SFX Entertainment and was supposed to be sold off during restructuring. A post on the website blog states that the streaming platform, mobile app, and Beatport News will be suspended effective on the 13th of May. The reason for this has not been stated although it might have something to do with Alda Events seizing SFX’s assets and forcing them into bankruptcy court.

Following this news, while browsing the Beatport interface we realized that all Spinnin’ Records and sub-label tracks are no longer available on Beatport. If you search for Spinnin’ you get a variety of other tracks but none by the esteemed label.

The Top 100 tracks which usually include a bunch of Spinnin’ Tracks also have no sign of the label. The Spinnin’ streaming services are still on, but since they will be discontinued from the 13th of May anyway, it isn’t of much significance.

Even when we tried a previously saved permalink to access any form of Spinnin’ Records at the website, the page seemed to have been removed.

A lot of heavyweight artists are signed onto Spinnin’ labels and to remove their tracks from the lists seems odd. Maybe it’s a glitch in the system, or there is something bigger in play here with all the restructuring happening in the ownership. I guess we’ll find out eventually.

UPDATE: Baseware Distribution has cancelled it’s distribution service, leaving record labels just 2 days to find a new distributor. The labels that were signed on to Baseware Distribution like Spinnin’ Records have had their contracts cancelled and their content removed from Beatport and other digital retailers. Beatport says, “We encourage you to negotiate a new arrangement with another distribution service to ensure your future releases are addressed.” So the tracks by Spinnin’ and other labels should be back up as soon as they find another distributor.
