SoundCloud to Support Remixes and Bootlegs Soon

Posted at March 28th, 2016 | by Supreet.cheema | in

SoundCloud has always stood out from other music streaming services for concentrating on maintaining an open network for music discovery and focusing less on monetization. But this is going to change now as SoundCloud will be introducing its paid service before too long. The consequences of this bold move have become a hot topic of discussion lately. Moreover, Soundcloud has just revealed details for the upcoming paid tier on which its partnerships with major record label Sony rests.

According to a recently published article on Billboard, SoundCloud will offer a number of authorized, user-uploaded remixes and DJ sets on both it’s paid tiers. Every upload will be scanned for samples or copyrighted material by the site, distributing appropriate to compensation to the various rights holders if any revenue is generated.

With Apple Music to soon host bootlegs and mixes and Spotify already ahead of the race, SoundCloud will face a cutthroat competition in an already saturated market. According to Analyst Mark Mulligan, SoundCloud’s 175 million user base is likely end up with low single digits. But even if it is able to convert 5% that’s still 8.75 million –  which is still enough to make SoundCloud a serious contender.
