Rihanna Told Diplo His Music Sounds Like Airport Reggae, But Now She's Sorry

GQ Style recently published a gorgeously interesting interview with Diplo, following him around his recent Africa tour and picking his brain on many things music related. A funny anecdote revealed from it was that Dip has been trying to get badgirlriri to feature on a Major Lazer track but she’s never seemed to like his music much, and she’s the one artist they can’t ever get. She rejected Lean On, which Diplo eventually considered a blessing in disguise, and she even later said that his music sounds like “a reggae song at an airport.” Check out what he said on trying to get Rihanna on board.

I think before we’re all done, she’ll be on a song of ours. Hopefully. But if not, I don’t really care. I played her “Lean On.” She was like, I don’t do house music. I face-palmed so hard on that one. Another time I had a session with her, and Future was also invited. The Weeknd was there. Metro Boomin was there before anybody knew who he was. I was so contact high. Future played her, like, 700 songs. It was four in the morning. Finally, I was like, Yo, G, I’m leaving unless you let me play her a song. So I played her a song. And she was like, This sounds like a reggae song at an airport. [laughs] I was like, I’m gonna go kill myself.

So obviously these statements blew up, and were brought to Rihanna‘s attention. She posted an article screenshot on her Instagram, laughing it off and saying, “My bad @diplo”.

Who knows, maybe this is just the kinda thing needed to make an actual collaboration happen!
