Documentary Review: Nucleya's Rollercoaster "Ride To The Roots"

Posted at August 10th, 2017 | by Shivani Goel | in Entertainment, Featured, GVO Opinion, Homegrown Artists, Indie, Movies, Videos

Nucleya is the phenomenon that has taken over the country like no singular indie/electronic artist ever has. He’s the Bass Raja, the Koocha Monster, the bridge between Bollywood and EDM, between indie and mainstream, and he’s truly won the heart of the nation. Most of us just know him as the guy who lays down sick beats and can never do a show without packing the club (or festival grounds, or stadium, you name it), but as there always is, a lot of decades of struggle went into achieving his current stardom.

Being a long time Nucleya fan, I couldn’t skip the chance to watch the story of my all-time favourite artist on the big screen. Ride To The Roots is everything you’re expecting, and then some. The half an hour documentary touches on his entire life-story, from his disinterest in school to his many years of bedroom DJing. Udyan Sagar was a lot of things before he became Nucleya, including one half of Private Soch-alya and Bandish Projekt, and it was well into the mid-life that he relaunched his career to become what he is today.

“Earlier this year Red Bull approached me to create a 30 minute documentary about my journey so far as NUCLEYA. I was a little hesitant at first because this documentary explores all the sides of my life that i’ve kept private so far – my struggle, my family, my hometown and how long it’s taken for me to get here. It’s been a beautiful journey.

The documentary is centred around the massive “Ride To The Roots” show we did in Ahmedabad earlier this year, where I went back to my hometown to play to 10k+ people. Shoutout to everyone that was there!!

I am so proud of this documentary and cannot wait for you guys to see it :)”

Watch the Documentary Trailer.

With touching excerpts from his family and friends, flashbacks through select videos and pretty embarrassing photos, and the man himself talking about his rollercoaster life, we experience the real Nucleya laid out for his fans to see. If you’ve ever lost your shit at a Nucleya show, fawned over the guy who meets his fans like they’re his friends, or just simply love his music, then this is a must watch for you. (Goosebumps guaranteed every time a Nucleya tune lays into the background score).

#RidetotheRoots is premiering on 21st August on Red Bull TV. 🖤

It’s also going to be aired as an Independence Day Special, 15th August, on Vh1 at 12PM and 9PM IST. Also on the same day, a specially curated on-air block with sixty songs by indie artists, Vh1 Sound Nation, celebrating artists who are contributing hugely to the rise of music in India, will air at 12:30PM.
