Reggae Rajahs Have Made an Indian Version of DJ Bravo's Champion

You must have heard DJ Bravo‘s ‘Champion‘, which spread like an epidemic during the West Indies’ T20 World Cup win. The song praises Caribbean athletes and cricketers and has been played at nightclubs across the world.

Indian reggae and dancehall soundsystem Reggae Rajahs have made their own version of the track referencing India’s heroes like Sachin, Kohli, Sania Mirza, and Leander Paes. The track was mastered by Dualist Inquiry and the music video was made by Delhi based Duniya Productions.

“It’s great to see the impact that DJ Bravo’s song had all over the country. It’s probably the most popular reggae song in India since we started promoting Caribbean music here” says General Zooz, founding member of Reggae Rajahs. “The power of sports and particularly cricket as a way to introduce people to different cultures in India shouldn’t be underestimated. Big up to DJ Bravo for breaking down barriers.”

On why Reggae Rajahs decided to release their own version of the song, Zooz says, “Since we started the hearing this song all over the country, we decided that India needs it’s own version. After all, we are cricket obsessed like nowhere else. We are the real champions!”
