Radiohead erase themselves from the Internet; send mysterious leaflets to fans

The legendary British band Radiohead surely know how to utilize digital/print media to drum up a marketing frenzy. With only few days left until they kick off their world tour, the band has started to ignite the flames of anticipation for their upcoming album by sending mysterious leaflets in the mail to the fans in UK this Saturday. Later on Sunday, the band erased their online presence bit by bit to drive further suspense.

All posts and images from their Social media handles including their own website were removed. Their website radiohead.com is currently just a blank white space. Their twitter account continues to follow individual accounts of band members, producer Nigel Godrich and album artwork creator Stanley Donwood. Even Frontman Thom Yorke’s personal Twitter account has gone blank.

Radiohead fans who previously purchased mail orders from the band have reported receiving cryptic leaflets by snail mail, with an image and the words: “Sing the song of sixpence that goes ‘Burn the witch’. The tan paper also bore an imprint of Radiohead’s bear logo as well as a variation of the oily artwork that was recently posted on the band’s social media accounts. ‘Burn the Witch’ is an unreleased Radiohead track that is at least 13 years old.

Considering how short the cycles on these things are now, it’s entirely possible that Radiohead’s first album in five years appears next week—maybe even tomorrow.

Radiohead kick off their 2016 tour May 20th in Amsterdam, which marks the band’s first concert since November 2012.
