The King of Bass is riding high on the crazy success of his latest album, released over the course of the past year; Raja Baja. Udyan Sagar, famously known as Nucleya, makes beats that are SO bass-heavy, that if you record a live concert from your phone, all you’ll hear later is the thump of the basstube. His music is a unique fusion of funky Indian sounds with crazy, electronic beats, and it’s hard to stop grooving when you hear it playing.

His first album Horn OK, Please was released in 2010 and did well enough, but it was the Koocha Monster album, released in 2013, that put him on the map. Horn OK, Please mostly comprised of upbeat remixes of old Hindi songs like Dum Maaro Dum and Chandan sa Badan and was dubbed as the ‘Bollywood Remix Files’. Koocha Monster was a collection of original tracks with a few well-done collaborations, and probably his most liked album.

By the time Bass Rani was released in September 2015, the Nucleya fever had gotten so high, that Udyan orchestrated a Ganpati Visarjan tour in Mumbai as an album release gimmick. He toured the city on a truck during Anant Chathurthi, stopping at various spots to make his fans jump. Bass Rani’s Indian influences were taken in unique ways from Chennai, to Mumbai, to Calicut. There are collabs with soft vocals by artists like Avneet Khurmi, and it’s just taken the album to another level.

Nucleya, being a homegrown artist with Indian influences, is the proverbial bridge between Indie and Dance Music. He remixes popular EDM tracks by the likes of Major Lazer and Skrillex into his live sets, and they are so catchy and power-packed that his audience goes wild. Even at big, multi-artist events like NH7 Weekender, whether his stage is the most crowded or not, it definitely has the most energetic crowd. He’s increased his touring since the release of Bass Rani, and orchestrated multi-city Bass Yatras.

 

 

His Raja Baja album was released as singles over a period of time to give more impact to his fans and Nucleya now alternates between intensively touring and taking some off time to recuperate with his family and make some new music. The bass army has exceeded beyond India now and our favourite artist has made his way to a few shows across the globe like in Singapore and Australia. He’s gaining fans all over and he recently played at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Mexico as well!

 

 

His stage presence is larger than life, and he jumps and grooves with so much energy that you can’t help but follow his lead.
