NCPA, Mumbai Presents 'Songs of the Himalayas’ Celebrating Artistic Plurality

National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai presents the seventh edition of ‘One World Many Musics: Celebrating Artistic Plurality’. Conceptualised and led by Shantanu Moitra, the event will feature ‘Song of the Himalayas’ inspired from his 100-days journey across the Himalayas. Song of the Himalayas is a unique musical performance elicited by his interaction with the great mountains all above 14,000 ft. accompanied by an audio visual presentation.

Dr. Suvarnalata Rao, Head Programming – Indian Music, NCPA said,Every year one world many musics introduces a new essence of music to our stage and it has never failed to disappoint our audience. In the seventh edition of OWMM, NCPA in collaboration with artists like Shantanu Moitra, Ani Choying and Kaushiki Chakrabarty will present a selection of musical pieces drawing inspiration from the mighty Himalayas. We are very proud to present such talented artists and hope our listeners do too.”

Shantanu Moitra is known for his renowned musical compositions in Bollywood. The evening will showcase compositions created by him during his 100-days journey across the Himalayas.  Shantanu will intersperse the musical presentation with stories and experiences, accompanied by breathtaking photographs and videos that has been shot during his journey through the enigmatic land – The Himalayas. Through this concert, Shantanu strives to encourage his listeners to “see” a country by experiencing its music.

Accompanying Shantanu in this musical journey is Ani Choying, a Buddhist nun and a celebrated vocalist from Nago Gompa nunnery in Nepal. She is as illustrious in Nepal as she is throughout the world for bringing Tibetan Buddhist chants and feast songs to mainstream audiences and has been recently appointed as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to Nepal

Kaushiki Chakrabarty, Indian classical vocalist and daughter of legendary Indian classical musician Ajoy Chakraborty will also grace the stage with her versatile vocal prowess and an uncanny command over the voice.The trio would be supported by a talented ensemble of musicians including Flautist and vocalist Ashwin Srinivasan, Ankur Mukherjee on Guitar, Ukelele, and Charango and Daniel on keyboard.

Artists like Dualist Inquiry and Anish Sood have also performed at the NCPA before. This event is on the 7th of October at 8PM at the Tata Theatre.
