Music Venues & Festivals Can Be The Next Terrorism Targets

Posted at May 31st, 2016 | by Shivani Goel | in

Terrorism is an unavoidable reality in the world and in light of the recent attacks in Paris and Brussels, officials all over the world are trying to raise awareness and security against terrorist activities. Considering that one of the attacks in Paris last year included a music venue, security heads have concluded that areas with large gatherings are likely targets.

A lot of gigs and concerts got cancelled in Paris after the attacks

In India, the music culture has really picked up as more and more fans flock to concerts when international artists are playing, like at Skrillex last year, when official capacity was far exceeded. Popular music festivals like Sunburn, Goa see massive attendance, last year being almost 4 lakh attendees over the three days. International festivals like Tomorrowland, Belgium, have greatly increased security adding measures like metal detectors at the front gates and a lot of other festivals are definitely going to follow soon.

Terrorists are perfectly happy targeting innocent civilians as long as it causes mass casualties, and now in India, music events are turning out to be the perfect target spots. There have been a lot of cases of shoddy organization leading to deaths at concerts which is another major thing to considered. Anyone who has been to concerts and festivals in India, has probably realized that most of them have severely lacking security, and it would be ridiculously easy to target such music events. Stepping up on the security measures should be a prime concern for organizers and as attendees you should think twice before attending a large festivals where you can clearly see lack of proper security.
