10 Most Overplayed EDM Tracks

Posted at June 9th, 2015 | by Sidhantha Jain | in Dance Music, Entertainment, Music

I guess ‘EDM’ is the most recognized acronym after ‘LOL’, used on the social media. Electronic Dance Music took the world by storm, as to listeners it sounded different and had more soul than a typical rock or commercialized pop song (no offence meant). However, just as any fashion trend, this “happening music” seems to be growing old. The following list doesn’t criticize any track for its quality but they’ve been mentioned here because they’ve reached a saturation point and are no longer welcomed at music festivals and to the ‘favorites playlist’ akin.

  1. Get Low

Dillon Francis is without a doubt one of the biggest names that has ever surfaced in the EDM community and combined with DJ Snake, these two become an unstoppable force.  C’mon man, who hasn’t heard this song! It was widely accepted as a ‘must have’ dance record in every bar, club as well as every mainstage DJ set and could be recognised with much ease anyone.

  1. Don’t You Worry Child – Swedish House Mafia

Just before taking a hiatus, the Swedish House Mafia released their sixth and final single which turned out to be their biggest hit and provided them with enough hype for their ‘One Last Tour’. This track received support from almost every artist, making rounds on every major festival set. It featured on every radio show, and soon became a permanent resident in everyone’s music library. The melody and heartfelt lyrics are hard to forget but unfortunately it has lost its charm, thanks to the continuously raped ‘Repeat Button’.

  1. Internet Friends – Knife Party

Even if you don’t follow EDM you might have come across this song some place or the other. Catchy lyrics, ‘killer theme’ and the use of world’s most recognised ringtone, all contribute to its huge success. I personally think, it showcases the best of Knife Party, but now I wish I could block this track on Facebook.

  1. Harlem Shake – Baauer

The success it attained has nothing to do with the music, but random fan videos that went viral on YoutTube! It looked like entire world decided they had to make their own Harlem Shake video to be socially accepted. Back in the day, it helped Baauer gain massive airplays, but today, I suppose nobody wants to do the Harlem Shake.

  1. Summer – Calvin Harris

The song’s beautiful lyrics plus harmonic melody made it an instant classic and in a single shot reached to the top of every music chart. It has been remixed a million times and has been listed on every DJ’s live set’s tracklist at least once. After that being said, Ellie Goulding vocals sound irksome now.

  1. Titanium – David Guetta

We have a list of most overplayed songs and we don’t mention David Guetta? That’s impossible!  On the whole, ‘Nothing but the beat’ was as successful as his previous works, however this song was played out beyond repair but now no-one seems to care.

  1. Selfie – The Chainsmokers

This catchy house track brought Chainsmokers to the notice of veterans as well as EDM virgins! The complete package included swagged out tunes backed with relatable lyrics set in a story telling club themed music video. The Botnek remix, helped resurrecting the track but to be completely honest, it became annoying after it made more radio appearances than AAP’s election campaigns.

  1. Levels – Avicii

This song catapulted ‘EDM’ into the mainstream radio airplay, and helped Avicii top the charts, gaining worldwide success. But soon after, it became a joke when Flo Rida ruined the track when he sang over it for “Good Feeling”.

  1. Animals – Martin Garrix

No no, it hasn’t topped the list. Martin Garrix rose to fame and broke all records with ‘Animals’. Apparently it had become pretty much too mainstream and was played so often still at shows that’s it’s no longer appealing! deadmau5 came to the rescue by dropping McMaNGOS remix at Ultra 2014, openly declaring that this repetitive track is lifeless!

  1. Turn Down For What – DJ Snake feat. Lil Jon
