5 Reasons You Can't Miss MC Zulu's Debut Live Performance In India

Digital dancehall / electro reggae pioneer with the golden baritone voice, MC Zulu is performing live in India for the first time this weekend (Raasta Bombay on Friday, Dec 1st, and Raasta Delhi on Saturday, Dec 2nd). Here are the top 5 reasons why you would not be able to forgive yourself for missing a chance to wind & grind with one of the greatest crossover vocal talents ever.

MC Zulu’s voice has been booming out of speakers all over India for the last few years due to his guest verse on Nucleya and Alo Wala’s smash hit “Little Lotto”. The ubiquitous pre-drop chant of “You Dun No!!” (i.e. “you don’t know!!”) continues to be a crowd favorite.

There was a time not too long ago when MC Zulu was one of the most in-demand MC’s for bass / electronic producers seeking some ethnic grit to lively up their beats. In a pre-Major Lazer era, it felt like every other global bass floor shaker featured MC Zulu’s unmistakeable vocal flows. And it’s easy to see why when you check out this one of many collabs with dubstep pioneer Liquid Stranger – still timeless.

In recent years, pop music has often taken up distinctly caribbean sounds and rhythms. But MC Zulu has been playing this game for years, fusing inspirations from his Panamanian childhood and Caribbean Carnival culture with electronic and pop motifs.

MC Zulu has always been direct with his message of embracing global unity and diversity. Concepts of social justice and community empowerment pervade his lyrics, sure to work out both your body and your mind. Here’s a collab with Quebecois global bass DJ/producer Poirier that is one of my all-time favorites.

When I heard the original “No Requests” by Shade FX and MC Zulu out on the eminent global bass label Club Popozuda (UK), I had to reach out to them to let me remix it with a desi twist. I knew that not just bassheads but all DJ’s in India, if not the world, will get down to MC Zulu’s potent lyrical assault on haters. Like the man says, “alright now, dance suckaz!”

It’s not every day that one gets to share the stage with artists that they have admired for years. Over the last year, I have been working on lots of new music with MC Zulu over email (like this brand new desi bass / moombahton banger below) and scheming on this inaugural tour with him in India. In the indie/underground scene in India, it’s an established fact that if you want something bad enough, you’ve got to make it happen yourself.

So I hope you get as pumped for these 2 gigs in Delhi/Mumbai as MC Zulu and I are, because we’re going to be previewing our new tunes exclusively for you. Winter is here, but we bringing the heat, so sorry Raasta, but it’s time to burn down the dancehall!
