Mainstream Trap Music

In 2013, a fan-made video of Baauer’s Trap anthem, ‘Harlem Shake’ took over the internet, propelling the track to hit the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. However, Trap isn’t a just a fluke, it has created a unique place for itself in the dance music community and now there’s no looking back.

But if you’re new to the whole EDM scene and want a taste of Trap, we’re counting down some of the tracks that have played an instrumental role in bringing their genre from underground to mainstream.

  1. Hardwell – Spaceman (Carnage Festival Trap Remix)

This Hardwell classic has received more remixes than any other track and each new variation pumps in it a new life. Carnage’s trap edit is arguably the best version of Spaceman, redefining the limits of big room house trap with a heavy dose of bass.

  1. Martin Garrix – Animals (Victor Niglio & Martin Garrix Festival Trap Mix)

As if the track hadn’t already gained massive airplays, an ear blasting big room trap remix was unveiled by Martin Garrix himself to take it to the next level. Quite frankly, this mutation is better than the original track itself.

  1. Headhunterz feat. Krewella – United Kids Of The World (Flosstradamus Remix)

This trap remix is pretty dope thanks to the steady bass and build up over the mundane Krewella electro beats. Within 60 seconds the track picks up the pace and ends up into a Flosstradamus synonymous drop incorporated with Yousaf sisters’ angelic voice.

  1. New World Sound & Thomas Newson – Flute (Tomsize & Simeon Festival Trap Remix)

Flute was one of the biggest tracks of 2014 and with a trap rework it became even bigger. The tune is flute-centred as in the original version, but only has a stronger build, more prominent bassline and playful tinge.

  1. Daft Punk – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Dillon Francis Remix)

This rework of Daft Punk’s hit track has protracted background vocals, addictive beats and a substantial amount of bass. The video game-vocal trap focused theme music is backed with only four words with which Dillon Francis has tons of fun all throughout.

  1. Aero Chord – Surface

Aero Chord is one name which makes it through every ‘Best Trap Music’ playlist, pretty much every time! He has filled with the scene with new ferocious beats, window pane cracking bass material. The track starts off slow and builds smoothly towards the bombarding bass drop. Although the Monstercat release has seen ‘n number’ of remixes/reworks, the original version however shines out unsurpassed!

  1. Jack Ü – Take Ü There (feat. Kiesza) (Missy Elliott Remix)

Diplo and Skrillex destroyed the internet with their first single, “Take U There” featuring UK singer Kiesza. Although the Missy Elliott remix isn’t much different from the original record as far as production goes, there is no denying that her vocals impeccably team up with Jack U’s monstrous tune to create three minutes of high-energy blissful radio friendly trap music.

  1. The Chainsmokers – “Kanye feat. SirenXX (Ookay Remix)

Kanye proved, The Chainsmokers aren’t just a one hit wonder. However, Ookay still managed to take this soft house track to take it onto another level. This trap banger keeps the melodic vocals intact and combines them with high pitched synths and earth shattering bass.

  1. Sidney Samson – Riverside (Onderkoffer Trap Remix)

This trap-ified version of Sidney Samson doubled down on his crispy and twisty track into an orbit with fast paced drops-a-plenty to keep it interesting. The three and a half minute track is filled with much excitement and comes to life plentiful variations of the original powerhouse!

  1. Statik Link – Clap When She Walkin’ (Instant Party! Retwerk)

Defying convention in everything from its basic beat to its bassline, with this remix Statik Link electrified the dance world with its twerk-y approach. Relentlessly street like in its lyrics and unequivocally pulsating in its beat, it only took a few tweaks of this hip-hop monster to get a rise out of a crowd.
