Globally recognised as a festival that pushes future-facing sounds from India and around the world, Magnetic Fields Festival has come to represent an exciting vision of modern India. As the festival inches closer to its fifth edition, the focus of the festival is as much on curating exciting music as on introducing new concepts and experiences to attendees.

The three-day contemporary arts and music festival is held in a 17th century stately palace Alsisar Mahal. Tickets and accommodation packages for the December festival are available at tickets.magneticfields.in.

The day stage, now rechristened Bira 91 South Stage, will host few of dance music’s most revered names like London-based producer of Indian origin Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet, a live AV set by Los Angeles-based producer of R&B- and-hip-hop-laced electronica Machinedrum and Brainfeeder beatsmith TEEBS alongside Indian acts like The Ska Vengers – who have just completed a three-month tour of the UK festival circuit including festivals like Glastonbury, WOMAD and Boomtown – Mumbai-based producer Sid Vashi and makers of emotive electronica, Ape Echoes.

Each year the festival draws attention to a new talent with its opening act slot – Kumail in 2015, Burudu in 2016 – and this year, Bangalore-based sample-driven, audio-visual act Aerate Sound will open the festival on Friday evening.

The day stage will also host the Indian premiere of Different Trains 1947a brand new audio-visual composition that will bring together the historical and contemporary cultures of UK and India, as previously announced.

Different Trains 1947 is a collaboration between music artists Actress, Jack Barnett (These New Puritans), Indian music producer Sandunes, percussionist Jivraj Singh, Hindustani vocalist Priya Purushothaman and filmmakers/artists Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, and who will perform a new audio-visual composition in response to the events of 1947 at the festival on December 17Different Trains 1947 will be shot exclusively for Boiler Room.

The Red Bull Music Academy North Stage, like always, will feature DJs and producers that have established themselves as pioneers of a certain style or sound. In its third year, the night stage will host performances from influential figures like Ben UFO, inarguably one of the most in-demand DJs at the moment and Canadian producer Jayda G, who has established a reputation as a fearless selector and a dauntless supporter of gender equality in music.

Joining them will be Special Request, the rave and jungle inspired outings of techno producer Paul Woodford, who recently announced the release of a 23-track album, Belief System, and Indian DJ Stalvart John, who will open the stage on Friday night.

Another Magnetic Fields tradition is the sounds of reggae and dub in the desert courtesy the BFR Sound System featuring Delhi Sultanate and Begum X in the Desert Disco Oasis on the Sunday afternoon of the festival.

Stay tuned for more details on this gorgeous festival, and check out last year’s aftermovie while you’re at it!
