Indie Artist Of The Week: No Thoroughfare

Posted at June 30th, 2015 | by Sarthak Vij | in Entertainment, Indie, Music

We had a little chit chat with the Delhi based band ‘No Thoroughfare‘ to get a little insight about there upcoming album and recently released song video.

Arpita Maitra – Vocals
Nehit Vij – Guitars
Puneet Sharma – Guitars
Achin Bhardwaj – bass/vocals
Sumit Pawar – Drums

Here is what they have to say about their music:

We like to think of our music as a river. Sometimes quiet, at times turbulent. Deep when deep, yet also happy being utterly shallow when it suits. It is said that you cannot step into the same river twice. We certainly hope so.

We don’t want our music contained. Best if it flows. Touches and mingles, influences and gets influenced. Like a peaceful sun-dappled stream carrying dried brown leaves, our music carries with it the floating strands from our weekend lives, hours spent in jam room lovingly doodling with sound.

Admittedly this is a biased opinion but we think our river is interesting. A confluence of varied musical influences and interests. A spectrum that sniffs at jazz, rock, alternative, even folk. Five people who cannot agree even on one single song to pick for a cover will undoubtedly make for an interesting combination. We create our own music because we can and we must.

About the video:

The video was a weekend effort. A flat in Gurgaon and some open spaces on the edge of the city served as the backdrop. The song (‘Long Road’) is a story of a long-standing, familiar yet dysfunctional, relationship where one person has drifted away without the other person even noticing. By the time realisation strikes, it is too late, the distance too great to bridge. The video attempts to depict the sense of isolation that people can sometimes feel even while being in close proximity of another. A never-ending staircase representing an endless journey, constant motion without direction or goal, without really getting anywhere. Will there be redemption after years of silence, misunderstanding and emotional separation? Listeners are left to draw their own conclusions.

These guys definitely are someone to watch out for this year. You can follow them here:
