How Jay Z Absolutely Killed It At Global Citizen Festival

So Coldplay was amazing yes, but in all that amazingness we are somehow overlooking that Jay Z proved why he is the king by giving that absolutely phenomenal performance. His performance was probably the least promoted since it was announced back in September and in all the Coldplay excitement people forgot to realize that JAY Z was coming to town!

He basically won the crowd the moment he started performing as he started off rapping to A.R. Rahman‘s “Chaiyya Chaiyya” with verses of “Bounce”. People still had residual goosebumps from Rahman’s expectedly brilliant, soul touching, performance and were reignited when Jay Z started like this. He continued onto Punjabi MC‘s “Mundian to Bach Ke Rahi”, which has always been a favourite amongst international artist and is always always an immediate crowd slayer.

Jay looked cool as hell with a giant python motif on the back of his t-shirt and kept the crowd on their toes with his fire rap mixes and doing typical flashlight raising moves. What was beautiful though that since this was probably the largest crowd gathering in front of a single stage of a music festival in India so when the flashlights were raised, the big screens showed a crowd view and it was truly a breath-taking sight.

He performed his favourites like “Empire State of Mind” and “Holy Grail” which are bound to be crowd favourites. Sticking to the more popular ones, probably to appeal to such a large Indian audience he rapped to tracks like “Drunk in Love”, “99 Problems”, and “Big Pimpin”, and it was a pleasant surprise to see quite a large part of the crowd actually singing along.

Overall an absolutely brilliant performance, on a level by itself, with or without Coldplay also happening. Yes, Coldplay was brilliant and most people attended because of that, but actually witnessing a Jay Z performance as well was more than just a cherry on top of the cake.
