Here's What Happened to the Mad Decent Block Party in Delhi

Posted at February 21st, 2016 | by Shivani Goel | in

Delhi was super pumped about the Mad Decent Block Party that was to happen at Danchiri grounds near the Delhi-Gurgaon Toll. The Mumbai edition of MDBP had been a blast and fans in Delhi were all the more excited after seeing after-event pictures and videos of Mumbai.

The morning of 20th, Saturday, however, people started wondering whether the event was going to be safe or whether it was going to happen at all considering the unrest in Haryana because of the jaat riots. Friday had seen a lot of traffic as the jaat agitation had spread to Gurgaon and the protesters had taken to the streets blocking major intersections and several roads. Areas of Sohna Road, Sector 5 Road, Subhash Chowk, Gurgaon Gaon and many more, were all in a mess. The protest was supposed to be peaceful but the situation had worsened and major areas like IFFCO Chowk and Huda City Centre were also blocked off. Some death were also reported, which put all NCR residents on high alert. The areas near DLF Cyber Hub and NH8 were also tense throughout the day and because our MDBP area was bang in the middle of all this unrest, the event was cancelled because of possible security threats. After the mishaps that Gurgaon has previously seen with concerts, no authority wanted to allow something like this to take place in the middle of all this agitation.

Official news of cancellation wasn’t announced till about 5 in the afternoon on Saturday, which was ridiculously late as the event was supposed to start at 4pm. Soon after that it was announced that Diplo, along with Nucleya and Gorgon City would be performing that very night at Hype, Nehru Place, where the official after party was slated to happen. Enthusiasts in Delhi were suddenly hopeful again that they might get some of what they were expecting. The regular MDBP tickets were not valid for this event, you had to buy new ones and it was limited entry. MDBP will either be rescheduled for a later date or those tickets will be refunded.

Nucleya, Gorgon City, and Diplo smashed a killer set at Hype on Saturday night. The event went on till about 3AM into Sunday. We’re presuming Diplo was slated to be the surprise guest along with Gorgon City as he played at the Mumbai after party as well and the Hype event seemed to be well organized. If you were at Hype last night then you were among the lucky few who got to see Diplo in action. For the rest, we’re hopeful that Mad Decent will return, until then, check out some snaps we managed to get our hands on from Diplo’s time in Delhi.
