Happy Birthday Steve Angello, here is all about the making of "Wild Youth"

Posted at November 22nd, 2015 | by Sidhantha Jain | in

If there’s one thing common amongst each and every dance music fan, it is having a “attend Swedish House Mafia reunion tour” on our wish lists. Who doesn’t miss SHM? Definitely we all do! As it turns out, even the members of the genre defining trio miss their days as a bunch of ‘Wild Youth.’ Not so long back, during an interview on Zane Lowe’s Beat 1 radio show, Axwell hinted that the Swedes might join forces again, without spilling too much. “Who knows what happens in the future, we might get a sudden urge for Swedish House Mafia again… who knows!”

Read more about it here.

Ever since these guys spilt ways in 2013, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso have been working under a common alias of Axwell Λ Ingrosso, leaving Steve Angello more focused on his debut album and record label, Size Records. To rejoice of every EDM enthusiast in general, Steve Angello has unveiled the first chapter to his long awaited album ‘Wild Youth.’ This episode of the LP includes three of the previously released tracks, “Children Of The Wild” “Wasted Love” and “Remember,” which was recently uploaded. The other three are almost heard songs, “Tiger,” “The Ocean,” and “Prisoner.” What’s great about his new work is, none of them are big-room house or commercial festival centered; emotions and heart melting melodies drive the album. In an interview with Billboard, published on May 04, 2015, he happened to mention:

If you think about rock artists, they make an album, they tour the album, and then they have two years off to make a new album because they need time to reinvent themselves. So that’s what I did. I spent the past two years in the studio, and now I’m ready to run out of the gate. And, you know, it’s a relief knowing I don’t have to play “Don’t You Worry Child” all the time. For the full interview, reach here.

We’ll all agree to say “Remember,” which features the Australian group ‘The Presets’ is a bit more special for the 33 year old DJ than any other track on the list. First heard on Beats 1 alongside Zane Lowe, the roughly 6 minute track got its own video depicting Angello’s feelings and delivering a subtle message in the form of three kids’ innocence.

Director Lance Drake chases three young boys (the mini Swedish House Mafia, maybe?) in a jungle where they initiate an aimless journey, smoking an imaginary cigarette (just like the trio used to), playing on a broken merry-go- round and running to nearby waters where a fire burns above the surface to which courageous Steve (most probably) reaches and

realizes it’s an illusion, leaving him abandoned by the other two. In search of his “brothers” he sprints through an endless maze only to stumble upon an underground vault where he finds a piano and starts playing it with “But now you’re on your own” humming in the background. Suddenly the broken piece of instrument burns into flames and the isolated lad turns into Steve Angello (our assumption was correct) and the video ends with him on the bank of same the flaming river.

As suspected, the ‘Payback’ producer confronted his post Swedish House Mafia feelings in the form of Facebook comments:

I won’t be boasting (being a hardcore SHM supporter) but this is the best EDM video I’ve seen in a long time or probably forever! Don’t believe me? Watch it yourself:
