Goo Goo Dolls Take Inspiration From EDM For New Album 'Boxes'

The American band Goo Goo Dolls have established themselves a staple in alternative pop-rock by delivering such anthems as “Iris” and “Slide.” But after 30 years and 10 albums, the band decided to shake things up a bit and create a fresh new sound for themselves. Their 11th album titled ‘Boxes’ was released on Friday and don’t be surprised if you find your next favorite EDM track in there. The lead singer John Rzeznik says that a lot of influence on the album came from EDM.

I don’t wanna live within the walls that I built, so we just broke them down,” Rzeznik told EW at Live Nation’s National Concert Day. “Everyone changes; you have to change. I didn’t want to make the same record again.”

It’s definitely good to see that dance music is influencing bands that have been around since ’80s.

“I worked with a few people who I really enjoyed working with, and I just opened my head to a lot of different influences,” Rzeznik said. “I did a song with these young guys Cash Cash, EDM guys, and I was just so fascinated by what they did. And then I worked with a guy named Drew Pearson on some writing, and he’s just… he’s crazy. He’ll do anything. And it was just about taking all the restrictions off of everything.”
