An Exclusive Interview With Yellow Claw

Posted at May 3rd, 2016 | by Sarthak Vij | in Entertainment, Featured, Interviews

Yellow Claw are all set to make their India debut on 8th May at Richardson & Cruddas in Mumbai. The trap dons, comprising of Bizzey (Leo Roelandschap),Jim Aasgier (Jim Taihuttu) and Nizzle (Nils Rondhuis), have dropped such smashing hits as In My Room and DJ Turn It Up. Recently, we caught up with the Dutch trio to know more about what they are looking forward to during their first ever show in India. They also talk about their favorite festival lineup and Indian artist they love the most. Check out the full interview below:

G: Your first time in India. What have you heard so far about the Electronic Music scene here?
Yellow Claw: We have heard only good stories so far, we’re very excited to finally play for you guys.

G: You have been playing Trap even before it got its name and became famous. What do you think about the Trap scene now?
Yellow Claw: We think its great how its growing and expanding, its cool to see how this scene is taking over the world step by step.

G: You have such a huge fan base all around the world. Have any fans done anything crazy to meet you or get your attention?
Yellow Claw: “Its going down in the DM”  😉

G: Which one of you loves to explore new cuisines? Is there any Indian dish that you just can’t wait to get your hands on?
Yellow Claw: That’s probably Nils, we haven’t really thought about that yet, so we suggest you guys surprise us.

G: The Electronic Music scene has exploded and we see a lot of festivals happening with major headliners. Do you prefer a club show or a Festival? If you were to curate any one, who will be the headliners? (Apart from you guys of course)
Yellow Claw: Hmm that’s hard to choose, they are both super fun to do, playing in a club in Paris can be super hyped and intimate, but playing at EDC Las Vegas is almost unbeatable. We are doing lots of events and hostings already, our favorite line up would be: Cesqeaux, Wiwek, Moksi, Mike Cervello, Mightyfools, Yung Felix, LNY TNZ, Dirtcaps, The Galaxy, Snavs and some live acts like our own boys Fountain Of Youth.

G: What kind of vibe do you like to see within your audience?
Yellow Claw: SOME REAL HYPE.

G: Which new musicians have you been listening to lately?
Yellow Claw: Naaz, Fountain Of Youth, Majid Jordan and Midas Hutch.

G: In India Bollywood Music is still is people’s first choice but EDM has also picked up a lot. Have you heard about any Bollywood Music or Electronic Music artist in India? If yes then which artist from the scene you love the most?
Yellow Claw: WIWEK.  😉

G: What is one mistake you see a lot of up and coming DJs making? What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?
Yellow Claw: Don’t limit yourself, don’t think in genres. Experiment a lot and stay loyal to your fam.

G: If you could eternally be stuck in one year’s music scene, which year would it be & why?
Yellow Claw: In the early nineties Bad Boy records scene, 1995 the year Biggie AND Tupac were still alive and poppin.

G: Lastly, what can we expect from Yellow Claw this year?
Yellow Claw: Cool stuff, new music and that Barong Family world take over.
