"Castle" & "Arose" From Revival Recall How Eminem Almost Quit Rapping And Died From A Drug Overdose

We’re all familiar with Eminem‘s dark days. He has collapsed a few times in his career especially his release-dry periods. One of those dark days that he encountered is that he nearly killed himself. He didn’t realize the kind of prescription he had on him and accidentally overdosed on it. They were Methadone, a category of pills that are equivalent to taking Heroine. He rapped about it on Castle, his addiction to pills at the time almost got to him.

I can’t stomach, they can take this fame back, I don’t want it
I’ll put out this last album then I’m done with it
One-hundred percent finished
Fed up with it, I’m hanging it up, fuck it
Excuse the cursing, baby, but just know
That I’m a good person, though they portray me as cold
And, if things should worsen, don’t take this letter I wrote as a goodbye note
‘Cause your dad’s at the end of his rope
He has earlier talked about it in an interview;
“My doctor told me those mysterious new pills were methadone, which is used to wean heroin addicts off dope. Had I known it was methadone, I probably wouldn’t have taken it. But as bad as I was back then, I can’t even say 100 percent for sure. My doctor told me the amount of methadone I’d taken was equivalent to shooting up four bags of heroin. Even when they told me I almost died, it didn’t click.” Said, Eminem.
Then on his other track from Revival, Arose he raps;
(I don’t want it)
I’ll put out this last album, then I’m done with it
One hundred percent finished, fed up with it
I’m hanging it up, fuck it
Excuse the cursing, baby, but just know
That I’m a good person, though they portray me as cold
And if things should worsen, but I bet you they won’t
Consider the last four minutes as
The song I’d have sang to my daughters
If I’d have made it to the hospital
Less than two hours later, but I fought it
Came back like a boomerang on ‘em
Now a new day is dawning, I’m up, Tuesday, it’s morning
Now I know
He concludes on Believe;
Now and walk out I will never let you live it down
(I’ll never quit) Do you still believe in me?
