Electronic Music to get its first Museum in 2017

Germany is all set to unveil its newest art institution which is completely dedicated to electronic music and its history. Electronic music has been one genre which has grown exponentially ever since its inception in the 1970s but it still hasn’t received the credit and applaud it should have yet. Though there have been many museums around the globe dedicated to music, these two in Germany, courtesy Dimitri Hegermann and Alex Azary, are sure to be one of its kind as these mark the two museums in the world devoted solely to electronic music.

Dimitri Hegermann, the founder of Tresor, an underground night club in Berlin and also a record label, plans on opening the country’s premier electronic music museum in Berlin by the end of 2016. Both the club and the label have been at the leading edge in the German underground scene ever since the beginning and this brand new museum by Dimitri Hegermann is something everyone’s keenly looking forward to. The wait for the opening becomes even more enthusiastic as the museum is scheduled to arrive in time for the club’s twenty-fifth anniversary.

The second edition of the museum has been planned in the city of Frankfurt, yet another popular clubbing destination in the northern hemisphere. MOMEM (Museum of Modern Electronic Music) which was initially announced in the month of April, the Frankfurt edition of the electronic music museum is partially funded by the city of Frankfurt and is expected to open its free inner city lease space in early 2017 for the further development of the project. MOMEM’s co-founder Alex Azary has been an active participant in the electronic music scene ever since it rose to light in the early 1980s, which is why he personally believes that the music’s influence was a revolution in its own sense. Be it a genre or the culture of electronic music, he feels it is truly underestimated. Alex’s Frankfurt edition of the museum MOMEM, houses a vast collection of artifacts and exhibits spanning across all genres and sub-genres of electronic music right from the 1970s to the current era of modernized and fast electronic music portraying “the complete range of creative fields that were inspired, influenced and evolved from this club culture.”

Although MOMEM is still in its fundraising mode, the project is anticipated to be up and ready by the end of 2017 as the meetings with potential investors for the development of the project have been already scheduled and not to mention the that the museum has started receiving a wide range of exhibits along with several artifacts which are sure to interest every single electronic music lover.
