EDM's Favorite Ghost Producer - Maarten Vorwerk

Posted at October 15th, 2015 | by Sidhantha Jain | in

Even if you’re unaware of the name Maarten Vorwerk, we’re pretty sure you’ve danced to his tunes at least once because he’s been “Ghost Producing” for electronic dance artists and pop stars anonymously for more than a decade now. He has worked on chart topping projects with Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Usher, Major Lazer, Tiesto, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike as well as DVBBS in the past few years.

Today we take look at his discography which consists of more than 400 contributions made to the dance music community and share our favourite tracks of his as a behind the scenes man.

  1. Sandro Silva & Quintino – Epic

Considered as the first true big room house song, it was co-written by Sandro Silva, Quintino, and Maarten Vorwerk, and produced by Silva and Maarten. The single touched the number 1 spot on both the Dutch Top 40 and the Mega Single Top 100 in Netherlands. After being featured on Swedish House Mafia’s compilation album Until Now, it came to be surrounded by controversy when will.i.am released “Bang Bang,” a track on ‘The Great Gatsby’ OST which transforms itself into an extremely similar drop from this track.

  1. Danny Avila – Poseidon

Spending daddy’s money like a boss, Danny Avila is always hanging around with the top tier of the dance community and scoring club bookings off someone else’s efforts. Online critics are suspicious about his “sudden” rise in the EDM game within no time and believe most of his titles are produced by a ghost producer team including Maarten Vorwerk as one of the key members. Although there’s much not evidence of this claim but his family background, limited mundane discography and weird social media presence makes him vulnerable personnel.

  1. DVBBS & Borgeous – TSUNAMI

Billboard magazine called Tsunami “the most played tune at Tomorrowland (2013)”, whose creator was initially unknown. The track had already made rounds at almost every major music festival before it was officially released via Doorn Records on August 19, 2013, crediting DVBBS and Borgeous as the official producers. However, according to an internet leak it came to be known Maarten Vorwerk was one of the major contributors, producing for the duo as incognito.

  1. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs DVBBS & Borgeous – Stampede

With respect to the same leak mentioned in case of ‘Tsunami,’ the contract points at the sale of two master demos by Maarten Vorwerk to Josh Herman for 30,000 Euro, or 15,000 Euro per track. On paper DVBBS, Borgeous and the duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are the makers of “Stampede”. Although, even till date, Maarten Vorwerk  denies any involvement with these works. The heavily synthed electro tracks were released on Spinnin’ Records and both were major representatives of electronic dance music in 2013.

  1. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike – Wakanda

Swedish House Mafia have known to drop brand new tracks  by other artists during their live sets, giving them a head-start before the release.  “Wakanda” produced by the unstoppable duo of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike has definitely helped them bring home the “Madness.” Not many know but Vorwerk was their support system all along helping them develop the tribal bass kicks, tribal chants, and the massive tribal drop!

Fun Fact: Wakanda is a fictional nation in the Marvel Universe, home to the superhero Black Panther.

Other EDM tracks involving Maarten Vorwerk as a writer, composer or performer:

  • Quintino – We Gonna Rock
  • Yves V, Felguk – WOW
  • Yves V – Arkadia
  • Jacob Van Hage & Oliver Heldens – Thumper
  • Jacob van Hage ‎– Spotfire
  • Ruthless – Gers
