After a gap of 13 whole years, Lucas van Scheppingen or known to most as Laidback Luke, released his much awaited album Focus and my what a phenomenal response it got. Moreover for fans in India , we are not just overwhelmed by the music in the album which consists of 16 well composed tracks and features collaborations with Benny Benassi, Yellow Claw, Trevor Guthrie, GTA, D.O.D, Amba Shepherd but we also have a reason to feel proud to know that the album also includes a collaboration with an extremely talented Indian artist, Mangal Suvarnan.

A few months back the legend himself, Laidback Luke who although had released a lot of Original Mixes believed it was finally time to come up with a new album. He set out on a 30 Tracks in 30 Days challenge and quite unbelievably succeeded but one track that truly stood out as his personal favourite and went by the name “Don’t Hesitate” which he just happened to produce after collaboration with Mangal Suvarnan, an Indian born artist. Mangal had sent in the acoustics to the Filipino-Dutch who intern added his typical finishing touches to it and there came about another masterpiece. Laidback has always been a fan of a pretty diverse range of music and has even mentioned before the album release that Focus will contain “a combination of various styles, because electronic music is still all the same family to me.” And so it isn’t surprising that he feels that his creation with Mangal Suvarnan which is ideally a romantic trap song made with acoustics, an Indian flute, and castanets on that track is a special one.

Mangal Suvarnan who hails from the southern Indian state of Kerala fondly known as the Gods own country, has been working and mastering tracks in his make shift studio in Dubai since 2009. He is an extremely talented musician brimming with a varied skill set. He is believed to be able to play a range of instruments like the acoustic guitar, the flute, the baansuri (an Indian instrument), and a bunch of percussion instruments thereby making Suvarnan’s music a perfect blend of the contemporary styles as well as a touch of traditional beats. He often does his best to constantly experiment with his music styles and his years of experience in music production helps him implement the traditional tunes along with the pure essence of instrumental beats. Mangal Suvarnan released his first track ‘All Of My Days’ under the American Record label Brobot which received a lot of praise and got supported by artists like Pete Tong and Sander Van Doorn by featuring his song on their respective radio show. Following this, Suvarnan got a huge break after this acoustic tune caught the interest Laidback Luke who went on to rearrange, mixed it and put in bass and beats and alas the song finally came into being.

The new release of the track Don’t Hesitate in Laidback’s album has truly taken his career to a whole new level and following this he was signed under Luke’s Next Era Publishing group where he will now get to work with the likes of Blasterjaxx, D.O.D, Deorro, Gina Turner, John Ross, Jonathan Pitch, Jordan Ferrer,  Juyen Sebulba, Martin Falkenberg , Matalive, Revero, Ruben Kusters and many more promising and like-minded artists. Not just that, artists like Mangal Suvarnan are quietly an inspiration to many budding Indian producers who are looking to make it big in their career. Let’s hope there is a whole lot more to come from this phenomenal artist.
