After Ban On Goan Beaches, Drinking In Public Places Is Also Becoming Illegal

Goa has been in quite a lot of trouble over the past year. Everything that made it “Goa” seems to be getting banned and a lot of different forces are joining to make this happen. Massive music festivals like Sunburn and Supersonic are no longer allowed, dance music and rave scenes are also put in check, late night parties face a complete ban, and recently drinking at the beaches and surrounding areas was also prohibited.

Goan Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced that the State Government has decided to ban consumption of liquor in public places and will issue a notice by October. Apparently people drink on the roadsides and then break the bottles on the road which creates issues.

“If someone wants to drink (liquor), they should drink inside and not in public places. In the next 15 days, I will hold meetings with government officials to ban the consumption of liquor at public places,” Parrikar said. “Liquor shops will face the music if people are found drinking in the open spaces near the shop.”

Last year, ‘No Alcohol Consumption Zones’ were declared and people were imposed penalties if caught. Even this year, the police have majorly cracked down on public consumption of alcohol and made several arrests. While we agree that this is probably towards the betterment of the area, it still makes Goa lose it’s charm if you can’t enjoy a beer on the beach. Stay tuned for more.
