Epic Dream Theater Tracks We'd Love To Witness Live During Their Mumbai Show

The Indian music scene was taken by storm and surprise when the prog-rock giants announced their first ever concert in India. Dream Theater is going to travel to India and play their maiden gig in Mumbai on 8th of October at the MMRDA Grounds. The band has inspired loads of bands in the country and still continue to do so. They have a huge fan following in India and the fans have been waiting a long time to get an opportunity to witness them play live.

With the big day just around the corner, we have listed the Top 8 songs that DT should play at their first ever India concert. Since the concert is a part of their  25th anniversary of ‘Images and Words’  world tour, they’ll be playing the entire album and then followed by songs from other albums.

Honor Thy Father

This is the 4th song on their 7th album and it is one of the heaviest songs in their entire discography. The instrumental parts of the song have been used for various movies. It is a favorite for many of the DT fans.

As I Am

It is the first song from their album ‘Train Of Thought’. The song inspired by Dream Theater’s 2003 summer tour with Queensrÿche. Queensrÿche guitarist Mike Stoe  tried giving John Petrucci tips on playing guitar, leading Petrucci to write the lyrics: “Don’t tell me what’s in, tell me how to write”.

Octavarium

This is the final song and the title track of their latest album, Octavarium. The song connects several themes of the album. The song has a Flute intro and also features an orchestra. This song will be a great one to witness live.

The Dance Of Eternity

It is the 9th track on the album Metropolis pt.2 Scenes from a Memory. It is an instrumental and it would be sweet to have it on the set list. Fans also consider it to be one of the most complex songs that DT have ever written.

Wither

It is the second single from their album Black Clouds and Silver Linings. The entire song has been written and composed by John Petrucci. This is the first song where the entire band was not a part of the song writing process. It is one of their few slow numbers and would sound wonderful at the MMRDA Grounds.

Hollow Years

It is the third track on their first album, When Dream and Day Unite, and the only instrumental on the album. It is the most popular song of the album, and is a staple of the band’s live shows.

Space Dye Vest

It  is the eleventh and final song from 1994 album, Awake. The song was written entirely by the keyboardist Kevin Moore, and indeed its demo featured Moore on vocals. It is structured around a dark, brooding duet between Moore playing the piano and vocalist James LaBrie. The rest of the band kick in for a dramatic outro which fades out.

The Spirit Carries On (1999)

This is the final track on 1999’s Scenes From A Memory. Lyrically delving into the dark topic of death and rebirth, it’s a musically uplifting song with a triumphant ending. Melodically beautiful, the combination of Jordan Rudess’ piano and Petrucci’s Dave Gilmour style solos are immensely evocative.

All the above mentioned songs some of the most famous songs and we are sure that the Indian fans would love to hear them live at this once in a lifetime concert opportunity.
