There are a lot of philanthropic EDM DJs who have also stepped up to make this world a better place to live in some way or the other. Powered by The Monk, an exclusive eyewear brand that believes one random act of kindness can go a long way, here are some dance music stalwarts that have made a difference over the years.

The Las Vegas shooting left 58 dead and nearly 500 injured at the Route 91 Harvest music festival. Diplo challenged his friends to come forward and donate the money which directly went to the families of the affected. After he made a contribution of $100,000, artists followed the suite; Steve Aoki and Tiesto bestowed $200,000 each, Dillon Francis split his $100,000 between victims of Las Vegas and Puerto Rico hurricane relief. More artists like Valentino Khan, Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers and Kaskade chipped in with their individual contributions.

Steve Angello

Angello runs a charity by the name of Size Foundation which focuses on education and empowerment of children as well as young adults. Recently, the former Swedish House Mafia member gave away $5K to a young girl in need of liver transplant!

Calvin Harris

The world’s highest paid DJ has a heart too! In 2012, Harris joined forced with Rihanna to raise funds for the Children’s Orthopaedic Center and an artist’s program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He also appeared on Tiesto’s charitable album Dance (RED), Save Lives and completed the ALS Ice-bucket challenge after when the latter nominated him!

Steve Aoki

In 2014, Steve made donations of over $65,000 after he pledged to donate one dollar from every ticket sold on his massive Aokify America tour! The money went to four health and research organizations of his choice.

Bassnectar launched the “Dollar Per Basshead” campaign, according to which a dollar for each ticket sold, went to Alternet, Free Press organization, and Reach Out. In 2011, the total amount collected was close to $250,000. 2012 and 2013, saw collections of over $100,000 donated each year!

In 2006, Tiesto was named the official ambassador for Dance4Life. In 2012, the Dutch released a compilation album ‘Dance (RED) Save Lives’ donating all its revenues to the fight against HIV AIDS!

Skrillex’s Nestivus charity campaign, gave all of its income to ‘Bridges for Music’, a NPO supporting electronic music in developing countries and raising global awareness about numerous issues through music!

In January 2014, Krewella partnered with ‘Electric Family’ to release a bracelet whose proceeds are contributed to ‘Dance For Paralysis’. The partnership successfully raised over $10,000,000 as of February 2014! The girls also donated 100% of ticket sales for their Boston show held during the Memorial Day weekend to the above mentioned charity!

In 2011, the Swede along with his manager incepted the ‘House for Hunger’ and managed to donate $1 million to help fund The Feed Foundation! The kind act resulted in over two million meals being distributed to schools throughout Africa!

David Guetta

The French DJ teamed up with the United Nations to produce the track, “One Voice” for the World Humanitarian day. For every tweet/re-tweet of its official video a dollar was raised for an aid relief in the Philippines, Syria and other countries.

Institute for Music and Neurologic Function awarded Moby with the ‘Music Has Power Award’ for his selfless service. He also has been an advocate for the Humane Society, an organization against cruelty show towards animals. His website licences original works to produce revenue and help others to achieve their goals.

We know this isn’t the complete list of the humble and genuine artists present in the EDM scene, there’re many more to count! Help us appreciate their efforts by letting us know about their benefactions in the comments section below.
