It's Official: Dancing Enlightens Your Soul

Posted at July 8th, 2016 | by Singh Shivani | in

You’ve had a rough day and, frustration and depression are taking turns to engulf you into moroseness. All you need to do is either turn up the volume or plug in your headphones and do some crazy grooving on your favourite music. For ages, dancing has been the happy food for the soul. It helps you stay fit and cheerful without even actually spending hours at the gym. You can learn to express and vent out yourself through dancing.

One tends to be less conscious about himself/herself and this helps to unwind the exhausted mind and soul. Dancing boosts our self-esteem and builds up confidence.

These, my dear aren’t a layman’s words. The authors of a meta-analysis of 27 studies on the effectiveness of dance movement therapy, published in Arts in Psychotherapy in 2014, concluded that dancing should be encouraged as part of treatment for people with depression and anxiety. The pros of dancing aren’t just limited to that. According to a review in the European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in 2009, dancing may help people with Parkinson’s disease, which is characterized by rigid muscles, slowed movement, and impaired balance.

In a 21-year study conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine dancing frequently was proven to reduce the risk of dementia by 76% in which is greater than what any other cognitive or physical activity.
