When Bollywood Music Met EDM To Create Inspired Soundtracks

Did you know, the music video for “Lean On” was filmed in Maharashtra, India, inspired by the country’s culture and choreographed by an Indian? This is enough to prove dance music has infiltrated into the Indian music scene! That’s not it though, Bollywood is embracing the change and has released quite a few EDM inspired soundtracks. We count 5 such songs in the following list:

  1. Sooraj Dooba Hain

This peppy dance number sung by Arijit Singh and Aditi Singh Sharma is from the movie ‘Roy’ with lyrics penned by Kumaar. Amaal Mallik’s music production on this track revolves around an electro-progressive theme with an extensive use of uplifting riffs and hard hitting electronic percussions.

  1. Manali Trance

Trance literally means a hypnotic or ecstatic state of my mind, and the duo of Yo Yo Honey Singh and Neha Kakkar effectively manage get us there with this ‘The Shaukeens’ track. The basic sound structure falls in line with a typical dubstep track – bass driven beats, tightly coiled drums, snappy synthetic tune and a massive drop! The dark psychedelic music video features the gorgeous Lisa Haydon dancing to the trippy beats and lip syncing to Neha Kakkar’s ethereal voice.

  1. Aafaton Ke Parinde

The Ishaqzaade title track employs instruments like the tabla and the banjo in order to better represent the rural music and incorporates it with Suraj Jagan and Divya Kumar’s vocals in high energy western dubstep dub beats! Mr. Trivedi’s interpretation of Skrillex might not technically succeed at being a Beatport chart topper but it is a welcome change for Indian EDM fans!

  1. Teri Pehn Di

The song is about a Sardar Ji on his way to a bar club on a Friday night who’s already high on swag! Big thumpy bass, electro horns and ridiculously funny lyrics from D Soldierz will make you stomp your feet with big smile on your face!

P.S. The animated video is a must watch!

  1. Tunak Tunak Tun (Deadmau5 Remix)

Critics complained that Mehndi’s music was only popular due to his videos that featured beautiful women dancing, his response to this was ‘Tunak Tunak Tun’ which featured only him and rest is history.

Deadmau5 remixed it when he toured India back in March 2014 and teased it on his Instragram profile but unveiled the complete version during his live show in Delhi alongside none other than Daler Mehndi himself!

We wish an official version of this collaboration was released.
