The 5 Best Skrillex Remixes

Posted at October 8th, 2015 | by Sidhantha Jain | in

Sonny is guilty for bringing in the big bucks and importing electronic dance music to the mainstream with his solitary productions as well reworked versions of other Beatport chartbusters. The “weirdo with half bald head” has officially remixed everyone from house music veteran Avicii to pop icons Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga, plus who can forget his take on Benny Benassi’s Cinema, for which he won a Grammy Award! As a part of our week long celebration, we’re jotting down some of the most influential Skrillex remixes till date.

  1. Lady Gaga – Born This Way (Skrillex Remix)

Lady Gaga has seen some of her major works being remixed by EDM hotshots like Crookers and Kaskade, but the most renowned ones belong to Skrillex! He has previously added some dub quotient to ‘Alejandro’ and ‘Bad Romance.’ Apparently, the one that takes away the limelight is his ‘Born this Way’ or ‘Died this way’ remix! Adding an aggressive energy to the original mix, he injects a Gaga scream and lets it ride wild AF along with the authentic melody atop his heavy grime. Reportedly the song was contained in one of the hard drives which were stolen and of which the contents were leaked online.

  1. Black Eyed Peas – Rock That Body (Skrillex Remix)

Co-produced by David Guetta and performed by America’s favourite, The Black Eyed Peas, “Rock that body” proved to be a mainstay for both clubs and Billboard charts.  Skrillex turned this one into a twisted house banger, keeping the vocals intact from the original version and adding a hardcore beat of himself, making will.i.am’s voice sound as of Alvin from “Alvin and the Chipmunks”! It is a headnodder’s delight, with a really tight rhythm born throughout the glitches and the usual synth assault. Even though the four-piece used Auto-Tune throughout the song, and Fergie’s voice was deliberately high-pitched, sadly her vocals are hugely missed on the remix.

  1. Nero – Promises (Skrillex And Nero Remix)

We’ve heard Skrillex prove his mettle by performing a number of different genres, but as his discography goes, we’re of the opinion that after dubstep or “Skrillex Music” he’s attained most success with his DnB beats. To be quite frank, I’m a fan of the original one, but this remix is no comparison anyway! Nero called in for Skrillex to team up for an even sharper, more-screaming, and head spinning version of their first chart-topping single combined with massive bassline to match and murder subwoofers. It’s like the best of both worlds as you get a signature blend of Skrilly’s hard-hitting bass along with the trio’s high-wired vocals over a pulsating melody!

  1. Avicii ‘Levels’ Skrillex Remix

Even if you’re unaware of the fact that the ‘M’ in ‘EDM’ stands for music, you might have heard ‘Levels’ on some radio-station or the other. Thanks to Flo-Rida for his generous attempt to revive the song from the dead, by adding his “I’m a self made man” vocals and a 3 minute Beats commercial video.

*Cough*

To Skrillex’s credit, he did complete justice to Avicii’s biggest ever track by taking a dirty hit at the progressive tune with his stuttering and twinkling sound.  While the original is more dance-y, this remix adds a tinge of coarseness to the vocal samples from Etta James’s ‘Something’s Got a Hold on Me.’

  1. Benny Benassi ft. Gary Go – Cinema (Skrillex Remix)

One of his most recognised tracks; it became an instant classic upon its release. Due to its popularity, half of the world considers it a Skrillex original! As per Skrill standards, there’s optimal amount of bass, accompanied by a “sick drop,” enough to please the radio listeners and true dubstep fans.  A house track at heart, produced by Benny Benassi featuring vocals from Gary Go, the remix stayed on the iTunes Top 10 dance charts for more than six months and its accompanying video on YouTube till now, has been viewed upwards of 100 million times!
