With Avicii's Last Show Coming Up Here's A Look At His Golden Era

Posted at August 26th, 2016 | by Yash Vikram Singh | in

On Sunday, 28th August 2016 Avicii will draw curtains on his music career. It has been one hell of a ride for the Swedish, House music luminary. It’s been a long time since we heard ‘Seek Bromance’ for the first time ever. Conscientiously, 6 years. Let us have another glance on his breathtaking career.

Oh god, remember levels?!

The track that really put him on the map.

A genre-defining masterclass.

And then this bomb went off.

As alluring & captivating Avicii has been as a producer, he’s also a master behind the decks.

In late 2014, Avicii’s career took a downtick pursuant to his health concerns. He had to cancel all of his shows indefinitely, including his India tour with Sunburn.

In a interview with In The Mix in January 2013 he said, “I was drinking a whole lot more and I was going to after-parties and just generally not being very professional.”

“But my body just couldn’t take it and I ended up in the hospital at the beginning of last year, like a year ago, really because of drinking.” He went on to say he started touring at 18 years old fresh out of high school, “I wasn’t sure if it was going to last, I really tried to take advantage of it and I completely overdid it. I’m happy I did it then, and I’m happy I got that hospital visit now, ‘cause if not I probably would have still kept going and in a year or two years probably something way worse could have happened. Something that’s irreversible. This is not irreversible at all. It was just kind of a wake-up call.”

In an interview with GQ  he also stated the following:
“You are traveling around, you live in a suitcase, you get to this place, there’s free alcohol everywhere — it’s sort of weird if you don’t drink…I didn’t expect it to last… I was so nervous. I just got into a habit, because you rely on that encouragement and self-confidence you get from alcohol, and then you get dependent on it.”

January 2012 – hospitalized in New York with abdominal pain
March 2013 – hospitalized in Brisbane, Australia for acute pancreatitis
April 2013 – canceled Sunburn Arena India tour
March 2014 – hospitalized in Miami. Ultra Music Festival and Avicii Hotel SLS South Beach canceled
April 2014 – Las Vegas residencies canceled
Sept 2014 – All shows indefinitely canceled including TomorrowWorld, Asia Tour, & Las Vegas residencies

His career was teeming with major health issues and clearly he had to step down for a bit. Now he has decided to fully retire from the music world. We feel that every artist owes it to himself look out for their own self before anyone else’s. Although, it’ll suck not having him around.

The following is a message from Avicii to all of his loving fans, saying goodbye.

“Thank you for letting me [fulfill] so many of my dreams,” Avicii wrote in a heartfelt letter posted to his website on March 29, according to Billboard. “I will be forever grateful to have experienced and accomplished all that I have with the help of the team around me and my beloved fans.”

“My path has been filled with success but it hasn’t come without its bumps,” he wrote. Avicii was hospitalized in 2012 for acute pancreatitis, according to Billboard, reportedly caused by heavy drinking. His appendix burst in 2014 and he had both it and his gall bladder removed. These health scares have obviously weighed heavily on the DJ’s mind.

“I’ve become an adult while growing as an artist, I’ve come to know myself better and realize thatthere’s so much I want to do with my life,” the 26-year-old Swedish electronic musician said. “I have strong interests in different areas but there’s so little time to explore them.”

He will perform at his residency for the last 5 years, Ushuaia Ibiza this Sunday, for the last time ever.

Sunday would be the last time we see his waving hand in the air.

Sunday would be the last time we see his waving hand in the air.
