Alt J and Rudimental leave Bangalore spellbound

If you were to describe the Emerge Music and Art Festival in one word, it would be “phenomenal”. The show was everything a great show should be and more. For those of you who couldn’t make it to the concert, here are a couple of tid-bits of the marvel that you missed out on.

Starting from ample parking space to beautiful art installations everywhere, Emerge made sure everybody attending the concert had a smooth visit with no hiccups. A constant problem all through the night was the long queue for tickets and food and water. But the extraordinary live performances made it absolutely worth it.

The gates opened at 4:00 pm and created a beautiful scene of people checking out the art set ups and sculptures while the opening acts played live in the background. It was the perfect union of both forms of creative expression. Bangalore based rock band Parvaaz deserves a special mention with some incredible live songs surpassing all expectations.

Brit award winning Rudimental was blessed by a pleasant drizzle from the Rain Gods. The setting was absolutely perfect with some rain and some dance busting tunes by the London based artists. They played all their hits ranging from “Not Giving In”, “Waiting All Night”, “Right Here”, “Free”, “Powerless” and closed with their best- “Feel The Love”. They even covered Sam Smith’s number one single “Stay With Me” and gave it an edgy, upbeat makeover.

To close the night came the mind-blowing Grammy nominated Indie band Alt J. The four band members Gus Unger-Hamilton, Joe Newman, former bassist Gwil Sainsbury, Thom Sonny Green stood in a horizontal line and played some beautiful live music mesmerizing the audience. The band was pleasantly surprised to have the whole audience sing the songs along with them. Their performance was a complete audio visual treat complete with beautiful lights and patterns with soul stirring live music. The crowd’s favourite tunes “Matilda”, “Tessellate”, “Fitzpleasure”, “Something Good” and “Taro” were the highlight of their performance. The band closed with their beautiful hit “Breezeblocks” and left Bangalore quoting the lyrics from the song, “Please don’t go, please don’t go, I love you so, I love you so.”
