Album Review: Pharmacy by Galantis

Forever Tonight – is an upbeat, pacy number with a lot to jive on as well as smile on for the forever-bees, as one would have them. Besides the fact that the song opens with an instant boom, it manages to strike balance over the duration of the entire track, lending a very tranquil quality to even an EDM track. This is typically the case with the entire album, as one can clearly come in terms with the style of Galantis, spread through the entire album – tranquil vibes punctuated with solid beats and jives.

Gold Dust begins to pick up with the passage of the chorus, this is also interestingly the time when the beat spreads through with different ranges, later returning to the pick up of vocals. The tail end of the track though is quite captivating for its slight beats towards the end synergising loss and peace. In My Head seems to be a lot about the vocals. Dominated by the vocals, it also goes on to make a solid point with claps and a take off into high tones mixed with some crooning. Some of the best tracks and sounds in the album begin after this – Runaway(U & I), by far one of the best songs in this collection, is both fast paced and loaded with rhythm. The best part of the song is the chorus, followed by the phrase “you and I” punctured with beats. Ditto for Dancin’ To The Sound Of A Broken Heart – with the phrase “heartbeat.”

Louder, Harder, Better, is truly as good as it ever gets as the song follows an up and down pattern through a series of beats which establish mystery, taking it on to the other level. Kill Em With The Love gives a feeling of blues, with the tail end of the track bringing on some really cool acoustics with a drastic ending. Call If You Need Me can easily pass for the happiest song ever, the jumpy monotone throughout the song establishes this even better than anything else. Ditto for Peanut Butter Jelly and Firebird. You’ll know when you listen to Don’t Care, that you have entered a different territory. This is more seemingly similar to something of those fast paced let go beats. So a great celebratory vibe comes with it. It gets muted with low beats in the middle and then picks right up at the chorus.

You is a very layered track and the overall audio quality is loaded with all kinds of tunes put together coming across as a wonderful baritone sound, breaking out into beats with the chorus. Water truly does justice to the craft of the song – prosaic, liquid and constantly moving. This is perhaps a wonderful bittersweet end to an album which does more than put you in a jive. It is the kind of album that you can easily put on while staring out of the window in the evening, trying to figure your own emotional state of mind.
