Album Review: NO by FuzzCulture

Posted at July 13th, 2015 | by Avneesh Singh | in

FuzzCulture is a Delhi based two piece Electronica outfit formed by guitarist/producer/vocalist Arsh Sharma, also known for his experimental rock band The Circus, and percussionist Srijan Mahajan who plays with rock veterans Parikrama and Half Step Down. FuzzCulture started its journey in 2011 and gained recognition after being nominated for the Best Emerging Act at the ninth Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards and South East Asia’s AVIMA [Asia Voice Indie Music Awards]. FuzzCulture’s six-track debut EP Indulge.Divulge, which was mastered by Darius van Helfteren, the mastering engineer for acts like Noisia and Split The Atom, was released in August 2013 with major success among the audiences. Sharma said “We didn’t take a break after the EP. We wrote about 15 songs and they’ve got a real rock ‘n roll groove.”

In this album, NO, the music displayed is more aggressive than their EP Indulge.Divulge . The duo uses highly processed guitar riffs and breakbeat drums blended with sophisticated electronic music and scratchy vocals for their album justifying the angry theme. Every song in the eight-track album has been given a different approach, from glitch-influenced ‘Astronomy‘ which is one of the most apparent track from the album to ‘Promising Tomorrow‘ which includes pieces of piano. The opening track to the album ‘Animals‘ is about the perpetual fear of growing old within people, the track ‘Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing‘ is all about how people wear different masks around others, ‘Hipster Smackdown‘ talks of social networking and make-belief in the funkiest way possible and ‘Raw Eggs‘ has the heavy metal feel to it with distorted guitars, kickass guitar solo and hard rock drumming.

NO is worth a listen for all those who love electronic music and fancy rock as well.
