A. R. Rahman Has Composed Music For Brazilian Football Player Pelé's Biopic Movie

A.R. Rahman is undeniably a legend and he’s previously made music for international movies like Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours. The Oscar winner has now launched the trailer for Pelé: Birth of a Legend, the upcoming biopic of Brazilian football legend, Pelé, as he worked on the music for the film.

Rahman explored Brazil to take in the music and culture of the locals, to take inspiration for his song ‘Ginga,’ composed in collaboration with Brazillian artist Anna Beatriz. “I can see lot of parallels in Pele because when my father was about to make it independently, he died. Similarly, if you watch the film, his father was also an aspiring soccer player but he could never make it to that level. And his seed of aspiration which he sowed, and his blessings… I would say somehow made Pele a huge superstar. So, it’s a story very similar to mine,” Rahman commented. “So it’s a lesson for every aspiring father who never made it, the kids will make it. Be firm and believe in almighty. Encourage your kids and give them all your blessings.”

The film is directed and written by Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalist. Check out the post below with Rahman talking about Brazil, Pelé, and his music.

The movie, Pelé: Birth of a Legend, is about a young boy from the slums of São Paulo who became an international football legend through sheer dedication. Pelé effortless style made the sport be known as a beautiful game, and he was the only player who helped Brazil win 3 FIFA World Cups in 1958, 1962, and 1970.
