6 Indian producers the world is raving about

Posted at March 23rd, 2015 | by Sneha | in Nightlife

Pioneering electronic acts from India such as Midival Punditz, Bandish Projekt, Nucleya and Jalebee Cartel have all tested global waters, but with dance music in India finally coming of age, there’s a new crop of producers from the country already making waves in the international electronic music circuit.

Here are 6 producers of Indian origin you should know about:

sanaya sandunes

Mumbai native Sandunes (Sanaya Ardeshir) is known for a hard-to-describe diverse blend of electronic sounds with a strong influence of UK garage. The talented producer is well-known on the local live circuit with appearances at NH7 Weekender and Bass Camp festivals, and also plays synth alongside Dualist Inquiry. Having impressed the likes of Skream and landing a release on his new label called ‘Of Unsound Mind’, Sandunes’ latest feat is having performed at the SXSW festival of 2015.

Ashvin calmchor

Being one of the founders of Jalebee Cartel, Calm Chor (Ashvin Mani Sharma) isn’t new to the electronic music industry. In terms of his solo projects, apart from creating psy-trance under the pseudonym Crash and Boom, Calm Chor’s music is minimal and groovy techno. His EP Dance Floor Sci-Fi also reached No.3 on the minimal top 100 chart on Beatport. Calm Chor has been touring around the world, especially Germany and played at several festivals the world over. He also has his own record label ‘Soupherb Recording’ which launches budding Indian producers and has several other live collaborative projects.

Delhi-based producerHashback Hashish (AshishSachan) is a minimalist techno producer with a growing fan base owing to his extensive international touring.  He’s been touring in China for 2 years and already having played at SXSW in 2013 and 2015, this is one producer you need to keep your eyes peeled for.

Hailing from the United States, Numbernin6 has been in the dubstep scene since 2008. With massive support from the original heavyweights in the genre from the UK and the US, his explosively gritty productions are a far cry from his well-known British-Indian counterpart in the dubstep industry, Sukh Knight. When he’s not slaying on the decks, he’s a regular guy named Nishant Parikh finishing medical school.

wiwek mahab

Wiwek Mahab aka W.I.W.E.K is a producer from the Netherlands with a genre he describes as ‘Jungle Terror’. Completely different from what we’re used to, W.I.W.E.K’s style is moombahton that’s more tribal sounding with the use traditional hand drums and steel drum kicks. With releases on the Mad Decent label and collabs with Major Lazer, this guy is making all the right moves. If you liked ‘Bird Machine’ by DJ Snake, W.I.W.E.K is definitely worth checking out.

rohan chauhan

London based Rohan Chauhan makes bass music under the stage name Kaos. Originally from Delhi, he’s played at festivals like Homegrown and NH7 Weekender. As Flux Pavilion’s protégé he’s also bagged an EP release on the renowned label, Circus Records (also curated by Flux). With being featured on the UKF page multiple times, Kaos is another rising star from the country.
