5 Must-See Indian Acts at Magnetic Fields Festival

The music of Magnetic Fields Festival is an amalgamation of the freshest Indian artists along with exciting, underground acts from all over the world. For the electronic enthusiast, here are some of the top musicians from India that are performing at the festival this year:

Peter Cat Recording Co.

This uniquely named band is a 4-piece jazz/cabaret ensemble formed in 2009 from New Delhi/ San Francisco. Their music is reminiscent of 70’s Bollywood car chase scenes, and all the members are involved in side projects, bringing their own unique influences to the group.

 

Delhi Sultanate

Taru Dalmia experiments with a lot of different sounds and bands. One of his most popular monikers is Delhi Sultanate and here he focuses on dancehall/reggae music. Born and based in New Delhi, he spent some of his formative years in Germany and the US. He makes bilingual tracks, fuses hip hop into his sound, and even dabbles in performance poetry.

Nicholson

He is a singer/songwriter, keyboardist, and composer, based out of Mumbai. He grew up playing the piano in Pune, and then went to Canada to study Jazz. Returning to India in 2013, he focused on his compositions of electronic and organic sound. He performed at Magnetic Fields 2014, and has gained a lot of popularity by performing all over the country. 

The F16’s

The F16’s are a five-man band that has taken over the underground music scene in Chennai. They focus on rock n’ roll with a touch of electronica and write tales of love and redemption, while drawing inspiration from modern Indie rock groups like the Arctic Monkeys and Mutemath.

Jiver and Sandunes, two of the most cutting edge musicians in India, have come together to collaborate as perfect timing, after numerous musical run-ins. They’ve performed together before and now their individual influences of hip hop, traffic sounds, and jazz music come together in a unique and exciting sound.
